The end of the season

Today was the last day I could hunt this year. Headed to a friends farm this morning only to find 3 plus feet of snow on the ground. I knew they got a ton of snow , but being my last day, I had to try.  Well after an hour , to try and get the 4 wheelers through the snow and out the 400 yards to the woods, We had to give up after only moving 50 yds. We were drenched in sweat and exhausted, trying  to walk the 50 yards back to the barn to get the tractor,  took 15 min. We finally got the 4 wheelers back to the barn and called it quits. I hunted 65 days of a 78 day season , over 550 man hours and only 2 doe to show for it . Well this caps off the way the whole season has been for me, not seeing many deer and no decent bucks  during daylight , the big boys are still showing up on my cameras after dark , so now I look towards next season.  More and larger food plots , new stand locations and new camera locations. I'm allmost glad to see it end , but I'm sure in a few days I'll  feel different.

I am at the point where I would like to call it quits but ....... I might give it a try in Walworth tomorrow afternoon and then probably Geneseo on Tuesday . Tuesday is forecasted to have a heat wave of 31 degrees but there will be a wind chill factor . I might be better off working and making some money but I want to avoid being a failure during the regular hunting seasons . I guess I will just have to trudge through a foot+ of snow and give it a final try .

Gun has been super-cleaned and put back in the case. Hunting clothes are hung back up. Packs have been unpacked. And several meals of venison have already been eaten. Deer hunting has been put away. Now it is time to get serious about reloading bullets, and putting my predator hunting stuff together.

Think I might gear up for hard water. I also am thinking of getting into coyote hunting. As for the immediate future I have some posting to do for a landowner, that means getting GPS and moving the adjoing landowners posted signs the 40 yards back to where their line actually is. Might also look into plotting out rub lines on the GPS and try to get somewhat of a pattern laid out. I do believe Mr. Big survived and I have the woods to myself during bow season.
