Fuel economy

I have been looking around for a new/used truck with 4x4 for a while now.  I really like the GMC Sierras with the 5.3 engine or the 5.0 f150 or even the 3.5 ecoboost f150. I was wondering what is a typical gas mileage for these trucks people get with them when they drive them?

I drive a 2009 Sliverado with the 5.3L, did some work to it for more get up and go. headers, exhaust. intake, and a programmer. been getting 17 mpg's up-hill, down-hill, up-wind and down-wind.

The new Tundra's with the 5.7 and the Dodges with the new Hemi all get 13-14 in the city, and maybe 18 hwy!!! Holding out till next year and will be checking out the new Chevy Colorado of GMC Canyon. Like the fact that they will have a 3.6L V6 that puts out 300+ HP along with a 6 speed trany and for 2016 a new 2.8L Turbo Diesel!!! With living in here in NY, you need a 4x4, but this time around going with better MPG's since I don't really haul or pull heavy loads. The cost factor with the midsize trucks is about $10,000.00 cheaper than a full size. prices are nuts for new trucks!!

here in eastern ny I don't get same gas mileage I did out in western ny, because it's more hilly or mountainous out here.  new truck are ridiculously expensive.  ended up getting a used Honda Ridgeline.  it gets between 19 and 16.  right now during the winter it's the worst it seems.

I have a 10 Hemi Ram. Average in the summer is 16 - 18 depending on how much city driving I do and if I can control myself with the loud pedal. Highway, it will get 19 - 21 if you keep your foot out of it. In the winter, the average drops, I think right now mine is around 14 or 15 average, but I use the remote start from time to time, and it spends some time in 4 wheel and lots of time doing donuts and sliding around corners. The newer models do better with the 8 speed tranny, etc. If you are looking new, check out the new Ram 1500 diesel. They are the best option out there for mileage in a 1/2 ton at this point at around 28mpg. Pop a controller on there and youll do even better.

My 2011 f150 ecoboost got 22 hwy 17-18 city stock. After bigger tires a level kit and full replacement front bumper it dropped to around 18-19 hwy 15-16 city. Was a great truck though. Tons of power and a huge comfortable cab. Beat it pretty hard and never had any trouble. Traded it in December for a Limited Expedition for the wife. That thing gets like 13.5 city 18 hwy. gas guzzler but the fancy interior sure is nice

Also just picked up a 2010 VW Jetta TDI on Monday for me. I'm loving this car, especially the fuel mileage! Averaging about 55mpg! Real nice interior and rides great. Definatly recommend one to anyone who drives a lot.
