Lousy Meal At The ..........................................

The hostess wasn't very pleasant when she sat us..........Between seatings she sat in a tree watching everybody else work.

The waitress was a sarcastic pork chop, she visited with us the first time after we had been sitting for 15 minutes.  During our entire time there, she never asked if we wanted another drink, NEVER.  I had to ask the staff for 4 waters and they never refilled them.  The waitress never apologized for the delay in the food (70 minutes)

We ordered an appetizer that was right out of the freezer and into the microwave......Uggh.  Never stopped back to see how we liked our dinners.  The German potato salad was horrid, coleslaw good and fish fair.

Did I mention 70 minutes (one hour and 10 minutes) from ordering until the meal showed up?

I'm sure that kind of service and product would have warranted a conversation with the manager. While these guys should be able to spot these problems on their own (that's part of their job), you may be doing the establishment a favor by bringing it to the manager's attention.

Lawdwaz,

It was McPartands! Thanks.

Dave Elberson was the owner of Buffalo Forest Products, started in the early 1990's. At that time my shop was in the basement of my house. I met Dave and we got to be good friends and in '96 he offered me shop space in his business in exchange for helping him run the place. I took a 'vacation' from the shop in 2002 to build a restaurant for a friend of mine in the Finger Lakes and realized just how much I missed this area. The vacation became permanent when I sold the Buffalo house in 2006. I had lived there for 20 yrs.

I'm sorry to hear that Dave passed away. I hadn't talked to him in a couple of years. He was a great guy, avid outdoorsman and hunter. He owned 250 acres to the south of the West Valley facility near Springville and was very generous with his land. I hunted there a lot!! Not at all unusual to see 30 deer or more in a day, and some monster bucks among them.

Is the wood business still there? I know he had his BIL, and a couple of friends that helped him run the place after I left. Just wondering if anyone has taken it over. I left a bunch of shop equipment there for him to use because I didn't have the space here. Not likely I'll be getting it back now, though. Very sad about Dave.

A member here and neighbor of mine is "gonehntn" . He knew Dave pretty good also and worked in the shop occasionally on his own projects. The shop is closed now and empty as far as I know. Did you know Steve across the street at the service station? He's another good egg.

I knew Steve pretty well. Early on we had no toilet facilities in the shop. I'd run across the street to Steve's place and he'd ask, "Cigarettes or bathroom?". Yeah, great guy! And Charlie Phillips would come over from next door for an afterhours beer on occasion.

Sorry to hear the business is closed. We moved a heck of a lot of hardwood lumber through that place. All of it by hand too, as we had no forklift. And I built a lot of cool stuff in that shop. Good memories.

I'll try to connect with "gonehntn". If he was in there before April '02 he'll know who I am.

Thanks! Give me a shout if you're ever in this area.

Mark

I hang out at Steve's a bit.  I used to be in the same business and he was my Snap On dealer 30 years ago!  He is a heck of a mechanic too, I like to stick my nose in and see what chaos he has his hands into at the time!

I know all those Philip's boys too; Charlie, Pat and Mike.  Charlie left the business and is doing finish carpentry on his own now.  Pat & Mike are running the show.

Where in the Finger Lakes are you?

Yes, the shop is empty, I know the guy who bought most of the tools from Dave's daughters. He wants to open up a similar shop but can not find a building in the same area. The owner wanted 2x the rent after Dave died and now it is proposed to be torn down to add more parking for the front have of the building, for offices. We may have met, I worked with Dave in the shop for probably the last 8 years. He taught me a lot about working with wood, I really miss him. He was a great guy ,super generous! I hunted his property 2 years ago for spring turkey he always had a lot of birds. Small world, we probably know a lot of the same people from the shop. PM me we'll talk.

You have no idea how small at times.....and I live downstate;<)

I met Dave through my dad as he was a member of the local woodturners guild (my dad is an active member); I remember my father mentioning attending his services. Nice guy.

Interesting twist this thread took.

leave a review at Yelp

http://www.yelp.com/biz/ship-n-shore-lockport

Not sure if this is the restaurant you were at, but yelp is pretty easy to use. I check every restaurant out there before we go, just to see what people think, and haven't been steered wrong yet.

I found out something recently about Yelp that really bothered me. Apparently, how they generate revenue is by charging the restaurant owner to remove bad reviews. Seriously, look it up. How ridiculous is that?
