RomadRome
Hello everybody, My name is Jerome, just moved here from Panama City, Fl. Started getting into hunting within the past couple of years and am excited to be living in NY, not a fan of all the laws but enjoying the area that is Northern NY. I've lived in Fl most of my life and know plenty about saltwater fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. I am active duty Air Force but stationed at Ft. Drum. I've heard a lot about asking farmers to hunt their land. I'm a healthy individual and don't mind physical labor, I'm 6'3", 230lb Asian I actually prefer it. Do I just knock on random farmers door like a door to door salesman and ask to hunt/inquire about possible work? Sorry but I'm used to making new friends while fishing the piers and shores back home so I'm a little out of my element here. And the southerner in me thinks it's impolite to just walk up to a house uninvited and make a request. Thanks for any help and look forward to all the info this site has to offer. Doc
Colbert- Welcome to the People's Republic of New York. You will truly enjoy the north country. Unfortunately, I cannot help you out with your quest for hunting land. I have not had a whole lot of success with randomly requesting hunting permission. But I do encourage you to look into some rather abundant public land that is available throughout the state. I imagine there are some members from up in that corner of the state that will be suggesting some great areas, and may have some more encouraging and helpful comments on the art of gaining access to private property for hunting. RomadRome
Appreciate ya doc. Hunted on Ft Drum for a few weeks before deploying. Saw a few deer no shots, caught salmon and trout too. Ready to get back and learn more about the area, get some geese and learn some trapping. One of the guys at my unit is from the area. fasteddie
Check with the local farmers . Dress appropriately when doing so ....... don't wear camo when you do this . When refused , just say thanks anyway . Ask if they know anyone who allows hunting on their property . Ya never know !

Haven't done farm work in a long time and think it's a win win if I can find a willing farmer. GreeneHunter- Appreciate the PDF and information however, it only applies to NYS residents on TDY or guard guys. THIS SITE IS AWESOME!
