^{im new to hunting hunt out of delaware county mainly would be hunting deer at the moment.. been hunting 10 years now but in the island different style and game}

Which type of tree stand will be most beneficial to a newbe I was thinking of a climbing tree stand what r your thoughts ?

If you're coming up to scout try to keep in mind that there will be little if any foliage on the trees during gun season. Bring a map and get familiar with the area. Make sure to mark down the locations of obvious parking spots. Try to pick a spot that's far from parking spots because people will enter the woods there first and hopefully push some deer your way .Climbers can be great, but also cumbersome at times. To use them you need a straight tree with no branches. You can bring a small saw if there is a few small branches in your way. I like to pick trees ahead of time so I'm not trying to find a tree in the dark.

Treestands can be great, but you can also do good from the ground. Will you be there on opening morning? Opening day on public land is hit or miss. You could have deer in your lap at first light from people pushing them around. On opening morning try to get in the woods early. I like to walk in no later than 30 minutes before daylight

As a newbie, maybe you should hold off on getting a treestand until after you do a ton of scouting.  Don't automatically assume you need a treestand to hunt, ESPECIALLY with a rifle.  Sure, there are some setups where a treestand is required for success but you might find the that spot a treestand won't offer any added benefit that natural cover can't already provide.  You'll end up dragging all this heavy noisy metal into the woods for nothing.

Honestly, if you plan on hunting just gun season, you could probably hold off on some of your scouting. Sure, get in and know the area. But as for deer sign, a lot is going to change from now till the opening day of gun. And there will be more sign to look for once it gets closer to gun season, rubs, scrapes, etc.

Thanks Elmo but I was also considering he fact tht it's public land and I thought being in a tree might be safer for me in an area where there might be more hunters

What about deer calls ? Should I have that
