Lawdwaz
I had a couple black squirrels hanging around me in two different stands recently. You don't see many so its always neat when you do. I always wanted to bag one but that urge has wained. Shooting with the camera is sufficient these days.........................

chiefbkt
It's always neat to see the blacks. I have only seen one in my area, and that was on the golf course. I wish my wife would eat squirrel. I need to do some serious squirrel reduction. I counted 23 nests from my stand yesterday morning.
Pygmy
Years ago it was fairly rare to see a black squirrel around here..If I was lucky I might see one a year. For years I refrained from shooting one. These days, while not nearly as numerous as greys, black squirrels are fairly common. It's not unusual to see a couple in a morning's hunt. For the last few years, I have considered them as just another squirrel. I have shot 17 grey squirrels and one black so far this season...In recent years I have shot 35-40 squirrels a year, and usually 3 or 4 were black squirrels. Up in Ontario, where I hunt gobblers in the spring, nearly all the squirrels are black. Perhaps one in 50 is grey. 25 years ago I hunted deer a few times in PA near Eldred, in Mckean County. In that area greys and blacks were about 50/50... Edited October 26, 2014 by Pygmy
Uncle Nicky
I've never seen anything besides reds and greys while targeting squirrels. I'd shoot a fox squirrel or a black phase if the opportunity ever presents itself.
Twax10
Just out of curiosity... Is the black squirrel a different species than the grey or more of a subspecies? Like different color labs

LuckyPickle123
We have got a couple of black squirrels on our property. They are always stealing the grey squirrels acorns....
Culvercreek hunt club
I have one spot I hint up North. I see more black ones that grey. the property is loaded with them. Always wanted to go un after the season but it is seasonal road and I haven't had that much ambition to hike in through snow for a squirrel...lol
