Timing

I've found that if I move out in the dark all I accomplish is bugging deer and freezing my delicate bits.  I leave the house or car to head to my stand when it's just barely light enough to walk without tripping.  Where my stands are I generally have just enough time to get in them before it gets light.

I usually try to get in at least a 1/2 hour before light. To let things settle and listen. At times an hour. Depends the area I will be in that day.

I use a mini mag for light. I always use light because you never know what the wind has moved or blown down. Face planting over a new branch the wind decided was better in my way then to be on the tree it belonged to isn't much fun.
