And Biz-R-OWorld, petition covers westchester as well

I'm not clear on that, is says that 1C and 3S were excluded but the request is only for 1c "... rather than excluding crossbows from Suffolk County, it would best interest the constituents of Suffolk County and NYS to authorize the use of crossbows in Suffolk County WMU 1C, to aide in the success of Suffolk County hunters." Better wording for 1C AND 3S would be more clear....just saying... Unless I misread the entire thing....

Anyway I signed it regardless...

I don't see crossbows hitting Long island. I hunted out there a few times this year and when I leave my spots I sometimes see people walking the trails and some are cool about it.... some were freaked out.

just think a lot of people would be freaked out about it.

now if they allow it later in the season that might be something. but I don't know

They allow shotguns on weekdays out in the hamptons.

I am limited to mostly hunting state land out there, one spot bordering a golf course.

I've been amazed by the positive reception they give me, almost cheering me on to get rid of the nuisance to their manicured lawns and expensive cars.

Wish easthampton would be more welcoming to non-resident hunters even on private property.

Thunnus are you a member of NYS Bowhunters. ? I know they were against them being used during bow season, and wanted them to be included in other seasons or given their own, if memory serves me correct.

I'm not a fan of them being used on the Island during archery season, but I have never hunted with one either.

And why not support xbows in 1C? Bow season on the island goes all the way to Dec. 31. And if I'm not mistaken, I heard somewhere on this forum that they might even push that way into January. More that enough time to hunt with your bow don't you think?

1st off, thanks for your support, I hope you and fellow hunters will sign the petition.

You can hunt for deer in Long Island (Suffolk County) until the end of January.

Is your argument about "enough time" that we should have shorter seasons for a place increasingly over populated w/ deer?

Or is "enough time" referring to having a long enough opportunity to take a deer w/ a bow?

I think we all hate injured or lost game.

As much of an archer I think I am, firing 100's (not 1000's) in the pre season 80% of time I can hit a grapefruit if I judge distance correctly. The other 1 in 5 could be patterned in a volleyball.

W/ a scoped crossbow, much more efficient means of harvesting. Less lost game, more humane kills. All it takes is one limping "Bambi" in this heavily populated area to fuel the anti hunter fires.

W/ a heavy broadhead inside of 40 yards crossbows seem to have a super flat trajectory. I took it out of the box and was shooting patterns the size of a lemon 100% of the time.

Literally out of the box.

If you have access to one, try it.

For what it is worth I don't view it so much as a bow but a silent gun.

IMHO Efficient and quiet is probably the best way to curb deer populations in heavily populated regions of 1C_.

Deer population in easthampton is so large, they contemplate silenced rifles at night over bait.

Would probably be a better way for economy to let people use crossbows in a sporting way/fair chase vs hired guns and limit the minimal amount of land necessary to host a hunter down from 10 acres (very few opportunities and my friends aren't that rich) or let Suffolk county residents hunt town lands/parks.
