Well get the popcorn because a trophy in my eyes isn't a trophy in someone elses.I know people that either cant or don't want to hunt as hard as some and a spike or a 4 point makes them light up like our first deer when they get a chance to take one.I would gladly shoot a 2 1/2 if I felt like it(which most years I would) and 99.9% of the years I would take the 3 1/2 because that's a great buck for me and my area. Also its legal and I don't have the time to hunt like I used to.

I wonder how Charlie knows FOR SURE that is the same buck all those years?  Heck its a 3000 acre spread and I'm betting there are more than a few spikes/8pt bucks on site.

Something about Charles Alsheimer has always bugged me.  I saw him in person probably 15 years ago or more and I wasn't too impressed.

So some don't want to shoot spikes, others don't want to shoot the 2.5 year olds, why don't we just let them live out their lives and die of old age?  This is all so stupid to me.  I shoot what I have tags for and what walks out in front of me.  This is all BS that a deer needs to be x years old before it gets gunned down.  Makes absolutely NO difference in the scheme of things.

Steve - that was my point.

It's hypocritical to not want someone to shot a spike and be willing to shoot a 2.5.

I don't see that. How about this.

"It's hypocritical to Legislate or Mandate someone to shot a spike and be willing to shoot a 2.5.

They still aren't mature deer, more mature but no mature.

I actually have a bigger issue saying you can't shoot a spike or 4 and then take a 1.5 year old 6 or 8. To me there is no difference.

Makes one think that buck would have to be behind wire. I have seen that pic of the buck next to the posted sign somewhere before and i believe it was in a high fence write up somewhere but not 100% on that one.He has done alot of good research on deer behind fence thats for sure.  Almost impossible to know that is the same deer without a tag or marking of some kind and 3000 acres is a very big haystack to find that needle and then get pics for that many years. Would be cool to do even behind fence, to watch and record a buck living that long.

Culver - I agree - I think ;)

Apparently not making myself clear.

Telling someone they can't shoot a spike because it is young, but still be willing to shoot another young deer because it is a little bigger and/or has enough points is what I consider hypocritical.

Laws should be passed that forbid the harvest of any buck that still has its teeth. No deer should be harvested before its time.  If you can chew it, you probably didn't allow it to grow to its proper potential.
