The wife and I went snow shoeing last night. We checked out an area behind our house in Walworth,Wayne Co.The deer had browsed most of the pine trees as high up as they could reach.Luckily we haven't found any winter kill yet.We had 9 flat tops in our back yard the night before.

Only time will tell how area herds are doing.  Hopefully those pine needles kept those deer fat & happy but I doubt it. :)

Someplace in my area (and I just can't remember where it is now) shows a browse line that is unbelievable!  IIRC it is in a neighborhood and WAS a hedge of arborvitaes.

I think a vast majority will probably be ok.  it was a bumper crop for acorns and other mast this past season.  Little and or later born ones might not all make it.  Seeing lots of deer lately with this mild weather.  They wouldn't move so much if they were on empty.

Does may have reabsorbed their fetuses, we will know soon enough how the fawn crop looks this year.

That is the one side effect of winter that we won't know about for months. If ever there was a winter that needed this defense mechanism, this year was it. We set all-time records for cold in February. And snow levels came in at 3rd or 4th or something like that in February too. So this winter was one of note for sure.
