Thermacell insect repellent

Has anyone used these Thermacell units?  I have read they are great at repelling mosquitoes at a good distance.I am interested in one for Turkey hunting.Last year I felt like I was going to be carried away by the little buggars.

I second that! We bought them for camping too, it turns into a must have quickly.

Rhey work great . I was using them when I would sit out and shoot woodchucks . Bought several of them when Eckerts Drug Stores were closing them out . Gave away several of them to family and friends . All of mine are white .

I have one that I use when Im out chuck hunting, at the range, camping, scouting, etc and it works great. Ill be purchasing more of them this summer.

Thanks to Ed posting the close out deal on another site I jumped on it as well.

$3 for the unit and 25 cent pads and refill bottles.

If it ever craps out on me I'll gladly pay $100 for the next one  ... they work that good.

The repellant pad is in a sealed envelope . If you use the unit , say for a couple hours, and shut it off for the day , etc , pull the pad from the unit and put it in a small baggie for storage . The pads seem to last longer that way .

I've never had another product work better, but the refill kits seem really expensive and only last a few hours.

Something that I had intended to try is to take one of the expended pads , soak it it a mosquito repellant , let it dry and seal it in a baggie . Then try it out to see if it works . You might be able to find the butane cartridges in drug stores , WalMart , etc where they have curling irons as some of the units use the butane cartridges for heat in the non electrical units .

There is a way to make the butane canisters refillable. Ill see if I can dig up the info.

As for the pads , I wonder how they could be replentished . Seems they could be soaked in repellant ,left to dry and reused . I don't really know .

They make a pad to be used with a deer attractant .

I looked into the pads and I seem to remember that the chemical used to make them is not readily available. Ill see if I can dig that info up as well.

I love the thing...but I also use the Off fan type....that is good if your sitting still and when you don't have to contend with black flies as well....the thermacell is great for the black flies we get each spring
