Could you folks advise me on the best winchester 130gr cartridge load  to use on deer hunting in 270 winchester ?

Just traded in my savage 111  7mm on a remington 783. wanted to step a little bullet grain weight down yet maintain flat trajectory. There presently is

on line at Gander Mountain this model on sale  for $269.00. in 270 or. 06 caliber.3 days only this week . Also $40.00 rebate you mail in.

 appreciate, Froggy

I used Winchester silver tips for years with great success I now use barnes and have had excellent results with them as well. I'm sure some will argue but pushing a bullet at 3000fps is asking a lot that is why I have always preferred a premium bullet for a 270 as I want weight retention with such a light bullet.

Are you going to reload for the 270 ?

Two of my sons have Browning bolt action 270's that I reload for . If you reload , start with less powder and work out the best load . Don't start out near any max load .

CCI 200 primers

RELOADER 19 -- 57 GR

130 GR SIERRA GAME KING BULLETS (1820)

Are you asking about reloading your own ammo or factory ammo?

Why not just get use a lighter grain bullet in the 7mm? 7mm and 270 are ballistically very similar and I can't really fathom why you would switch guns (to what I consider a lower quality rifle none the less) for a minute change. Is there something else in play?

Thanks folks for your response.            To answer some of  your questions.

I do not plan to reload yet  but I may do so later after I get some empty brass built up to reload with. I do have a friend that has a 270 Winchester and he does his own reloads.

I can used his bench anytime.

My interest now is to purchase a good in general factory premium ammunition that you 270 Winchester people more then often favor for deer hunting.

The reason i dropped down from the 7mm to the 270 winchester is to reduce recoil effects because of the 270,s lighter grain bullets, also this caliber is a yet flat shooter like the 7mm.

i no longer hunt the big bigger game. The area,s in general where I hunt now averages 75yds. out 150 yds. max.

I have been looking at the 140gr sst Hornady and also The Winchester ammo. 140gr. power max Bonded PHP and Winchester 140gr.accubond . these had good reviews for medium size game.

The Hornady sst 140gr. design I favored the best.

So I hope this answers all your questions on what my thought were.

again guys, i really appreciate you help here. Froggy

After I settle on a good factory load, I can begin to run in the rifle lands at the range. Clean , shoot, clean, shoot, clean , shoot for a total of 20 rounds. Then she will be run in.

Start with the cheapest ammo and work up. If the cheap stuff flies good at the range, then hunt with it. It will work fine. Winchester Power Points, Remington Core Lokt, Federal Power Shocks..are all basic hunting ammo that will work well on deer.

I hunt with a .270 and all I use is factory ammo at 75-150yd don't have to worry about a flat shooting gun,as for ammo my cheap federal power-shok ammo at 18.99 a box 130gr soft point shoots as good as some of the premium ammo and drops the deer no problem.

sometimes I think at that range a .35 or 3030 would do the job.
