Has anybody found any sheds yet? When do they usually start dropping in lower New York?

Ive seen sheds drop as early as mid december and as late as mid march. Found a few dead heads so far but no fresh sheds yet

I think most bucks still have their antlers attached and I've seen some carry them into March or later. I do most of my shed hunting in March and April.

Last season , I found a 3 point and a 140" pair, day after Southern zone deer season ended.

Got some trail cam pics of a couple small bucks over the weekend. One had both horns and the other had had dropped one horn but still had the other.

Saw a nice 8 point in the field behind my house yesterday at dusk and he still had both sides

Yeah just checked the trail cam and all the bucks I've seen still have both sides on

anyone have tips on how to find sheds? my dog likes to chew on em and goes through them real quick. it's like $100 to buy from the pet store.

Want to get out and look too. Me and my girlfriend both have the itch. Just wondering if you go out to early, do risk spooking the bucks of the sheds you are looking for? Wasn't much of a issue last few years cause we had a bunch of snow that didn't seem to melt till may! Lol

I'm living in Ontario at the moment for work and they have these conservation areas called "Greenbelt". I was walking my dog there today and we saw LOADS of deer tracks, even got about 10 feet from a nice doe before she ran off (of course my dog chased her and only came back 10 minutes later..).

 

Sadly enough I also found a snared rabbit in this conservation area (obviously there's no hunting allowed there). My dog was chewing on something in the bush and wasn't listening so I went after her and she was eating a frozen snared rabbit lol. It looked like someones pet rabbit too which had me scratching my head. Didn't look like any wild rabbit I'd ever seen around here.

 

I'm quite an advocate of responsible hunting practices, I'm still not sure what to do about this poaching incident.

Call the DEC. There are at least two violations going on there, and they may have some interest.

I think Dec is out of jurisdiction in Ontario... I'm sure they have some sort of conservation officers though

Thanks for the tips guys, I contacted the 'Ontario Department of Environmental Conservation', not 100% sure it's the right place but I sent them an email telling them what happened and left my phone number.

Was that the county of Ontario, the Township of Ontario, or the Province of Ontario? ...... lol. In the Province of Ontario, snares may be legal for rabbits when in season.

In states where you can bait, it must be cool to setup a shed trap with bait behind a little fencing to knock them off.
