Larry
hey otto I was one of the 7000 also and one of the 2700 that turned it in Edited February 24, 2016 by Larry
gjs4
Glad you guys contributed. It may have seemed anonymous but they were not learned that in a conversation with the DCE yesterday. Not saying its good or bad but its anything but random or unknown.
Otto
I must be on their list then, I just got another postcard asking me to participate in their survey about small game hunting. And I get the waterfowl one every year too, but I think that is automatic with a HIP registration.
gjs4
Waterfowl guy too- the HIP number call is a survey....used to complete the Ruffed Grouse one...It was suggested I partake in the bowhunter observation log by the DEC biologist I spoke with- mind you they stopped that in 2012. Ugh. Unless you make an argument using statically equations I don't think they'll care..then again I don't think anyone of them has gone outside in years....let along hunting which some claim to do All of NYs biggest problems are in Albany
chas0218
I too took the survey I think. I may not have. Was it a paper survey our web based? The one otto was talking about sounded really similar to one that was after that webinar not to too long ago.
Buckstopshere
I too took the survey I think. I may not have. Was it a paper survey our web based? The one otto was talking about sounded really similar to one that was after that webinar not to too long ago. It was paper survey, not web based. I took it too and sent it in. As I recall (I didn't keep a copy of it either,) most of the questions, past the basic stuff, were about bucks and hunter satisfaction. There was ample space to write commentary which of course I did.
Larry
It was paper based I even sent in a sheet explaining why I answered some of the questions the way I did when I ran out of space.Like on AR’s why I pass on small bucks and I’m stead flatly against AR’s. Basically it’s my choice and I don’t have the right tell someone how to hunt on their land or to make them hunt the way I do.

chas0218
About 675.... which speak in volumes on a number of things. Yeah that's pretty sad. I was hoping for 2k-3k. G-Man
It's the same everywhere , a loud obnoxious voice is heard, the majority lays silent.
gjs4
I'd rather be called "obnoxious" by those to stupid to think for themselves and too scared to act than keep a perspective of another's backside as my best means of navigation. Unlike the usual cast of complainers in NY my concerns lie more with tomorrow the previous 45 years of bad choices I found comfort in. mike rossi
where is it going? In the end it will make it to the DEC and the big game board specifically. I may include the qdma and the nyscc on this as well. I feel both organizations are too into their agendas to know what people really want. (*) What agenda is that? (*) Culver Crk- I personally feel the QDMA is about membership more than deer. As stated before I am a member but not with the passion I used to have by any degree. Where were they with all of these deer season (non) changes? How can they buy the crap harvest stats the state throws out? Just my opinion...sure many will flame me for it too. (*) QDMA is a private club which does indeed have an agenda. It is an association of like-minded people with a common goal. So, there is nothing wrong with them or any organization following their mission. And, following their mission statement does not necessarily mean they are working against the goals of others either. However, the NYSCC is another story. Not only do they represent themselves as an entity which represents the voice of all sportsmen, but there are 2 or 3 state laws which mandate their participation in policy - which essentially disqualifies them as a private club - in my opinion. An opinion I believe would be shared by a competent judge or jury if these statues were ever challenged in court. However, if I did correctly understand what you are otherwise saying , I do tend to agree that the NYSCC does not represent all of NY's 560,000 hunters. (If I misunderstood you, don't worry about it,no explanation wanted, just disregard my comment, About 675.... which speak in volumes on a number of things. Maybe that will give you a sense for how difficult and expensive a large sample size is. Maybe we should just conclude there is a lacK of interest in hunting whitetail deer among NY hunters? gjs4
Mike What is the NYQDMAs agenda? I've posted this before- I am a Qdma member and feel sold out to read how They thank the dec for their efforts to reach out and work with hunters. That's a crock. The dec is inept and letting all of us who hunt deer down. They're not managing the herd or interacting with hunters.. And the quality deer part is bs as well as we all disagree with their reported harvest numbers and ages. I totally agree with you on the NYSCC and will add it's a crock of chit they are mandated to be part of anything. Guessing most of us have never met the members let alone have been questioned by them. I also see they have a fee to join which says a lot. As for how hard it is to do the survey- quite contrary. I am guy none of you know and I had 500+ responses in a day. The dec, who's job is to know what hunters desire, should do far better than 2700 unless that's their scape goat. Judging by my conversations and survey responses that contradict theirs (always have too).... They want no opposition. If that is all you think it is about, you are paying your dues but not understanding what is being worked on or promoted. Very easy to sit on the outside and throw stones. Why not step up, get involved and work towards something? Or is it just easier to piss and moan?

I mean if you listen to their own members on their own site that is. It seems even their members are dropping out because of lack of help. I mean Minnesota alone was a huge problem.
