.22 LR Ar?

My g/f had the day off today. We went out in seek of a possible new couch. After 3 stores and my back already feeling like a spike was in my spine, I made a deal. One more furniture store then a gun store.

So we stopped in a local shop, and they had an AR in .22LR.

Do any of you actually use or trust an AR in .22LR?

Never saw the reason to tote that much weight. My Ruger 10/.22 is fine enough in weight versus carrying a heavy black scary gun

An AR, even,  in 22LR in NY is illegal, under LiL King Andy, unless it has the goofy stock, fixed mag etc,

I don't give a rats butt who thinks an AR style rifle is scary looking. A 12ga pump is just as scary, and in the right hands just as deadly. I don't want this thread to be about the 'big bad assault' rifle crap. Or about self defense. As a note, the one I looked at wasn't that Mossberg plastic replica.

 

I am asking because I have always liked the way the AR's look. Just something about them. After talking to a salesman, he said the .22 can have the original grip to make them actually look like an AR. 

 

I need to check a few things, but I am thinking I really want this rifle.

, unless its been converted to NY compliant ……. Just saying. And the salesman is 100% wrong about the 22 being able to have the original grip. Don't get yourself jammed up.

It will be your rifle. If you want it go for it! The only one you have to please is yourself. Gun shops can only sell you a NY legal version of the AR. Happy shooting!

They shoot good... can be picky with ammo but accurate and fun to shoot

if you want it go get it bro.......I shot 1 years ago that was an m16 replica it was fun to shoot but i would never buy 1 my self....I own a marlin and ruger and they are my favorie guns to just go plinking with.....

I'm not a big fan of the .22LR. Even in an AR format. I can't explain it. I just want that rifle! It might have to have a silly grip, and the anti-gun people may bash me for it, but if my ATV sells I am buying this rifle.

Again ,,,Im just telling you the facts… You can do what you want. But selling, buying or possessing a rifle, as you described, is 100% illegal in NYS, unless the rifle has been made NYS compliant.  Sounds like neither of the shops you have been dealing with knows WTH they are talking about. 

 

In NY, under LIL Andy…any semi automatic rifle (center fire or rim fire) that has a detachable magazine can not have a pistol grip, or a flash suppressor, or a bayonet lug or a collapsable stock or any other "evil feature". Its not hard to look up on line. Good luck.

Well, I went and got the S&W M&P 15 .22 today from a different shop. Bought it used in new condition. Came with a Leapers Dot scope and rubber slide on grips for the forearm. I wanted the detachable 10 shot magazine so I will have to get used the lame grip. They even threw in 5 boxes in Win 40gr bullets.

I will probably take the scope off and put basic AR Iron sights on it.

Will be a few weeks before I get to shoot it, but so far very happy with my new addition.

Will do. I know it won't win any accuracy contest with that stupid handle, but should still be fun to shoot at the range. I wasn't looking for Sub-MOA, just an AR platform that I could shoot 100 rounds at targets and only be out $10.

You can hold it, just not grasp it as firm as with an actual grip. I have been shouldering it and while not ideal, it's functional and I can get a line of sight pretty well. I know it will never be a 'tack driver' in it's current state, and I'm OK with that.

I have wanted an M16 style rifle for over 30 years. I never bought one as I found other uses for the money, and would have never hunted with it.

When my ATV sale went the right way I decided I was buying an AR platform for two reasons;

1) Because I have wanted one since I was 12.

2) As a middle finger to Cuomo and all the anti-gun fools, and to prove you can make us modify our guns, but at this time you can't take them away or keep us from buying them! Some of us still believe in the right to own and bear arms. Even if we have a goofy looking rifle

 

If I have to get used to that silly handle, so be it. LOL

It will be like anything else, the more time I spend shooting it the more I will learn how make it do what I want it to do.
