grampy
First solo trip on the river today. Between locks 9 and 10. One of my favorite stretches . Saw a mink up close but he scooted before I could get a pic. The launching and landing of the bassboat can be a pain by myself. But it went pretty good today. Oh yeah.....caught six smallmouth. The biggest about three and a half pounds. Edited June 4, 2016 by grampy

Dinsdale
I was targeting the smallmouth. No walleye today. Any tips on what they are hitting? Maybe poke around with the kayak up that way soon.....
grampy
Any tips on what they are hitting? Maybe poke around with the kayak up that way soon..... Most of the smallmouth including the biggest were caught on a quarter ounce white and chartreuse swim bait. In 8 to 12 feet of water, kinda close to shore. Most important was to cast to the shade of overhanging trees. Also bring along a quarter ounce white double willow blade spinnerbait and a craw imitation crankbait. Best of luck to ya! PM sent also. river
I hit the Mohawk solo on Sunday between 7-8 pool. Got a couple dink SMB nothing great, one nice waldo. Did you launch at the cornfield? I'll be down between 6-7 this weekend I have to figure out them LMB!!
grampy
Yes, I put in at the cornfield launch. It's a lot nicer and less busy than the Kiwanis launch. Plus I love that stretch of the river! Just remember to put a few dollars in the can to keep it open. Between 6 and 7 use the Spro Frog in the pads for some good LM action down there! Or drag a weightless black Senko across the top, rigged weedless of course. Best of luck to ya!
grampy
Heading out solo again in the morning between locks 9 and 10.Got some rain yesterday in the area and got a little more current to work with. Going to try drop shot on the channel breaks and on the tail end of flats.

PREDATE
Aah the brown beaver! We used to hit that on our way to cincinatus lake. The otselic which flows into Whitney point res is a very good trout stream in it's upper reaches.

grampy
Ever get further west and hit the "old" Mohawkriver areas? The farthest west I have been on the Mohawk is lock 16. But you have given me a geat idea to do just that, and fish the "Old Mohawk"!

But you have given me a geat idea to do just that, and fish the "Old Mohawk"! Great structure fishing. Dead falls, boulders, islands, deep pockets and swift current spots. Probably the highest concentration of tiger muskies on the canal. Great eyes in the pools and the smallies are everywhere

But will make one or two Mohawk Masters before the end of the summer. I'll surely stop and say hi. My BIL is second in points after the last event so perhaps I can swing by at weigh in time. Fished six plus hours between locks 9 and 10 yesterday, and fishing was VERY slow. Caught a few dinks with a three eights oz. white willow leaf spinner bait. That was it! Best of luck to you tomorrow!!!!
