turkeyfeathers
Got up at 4:30 am. Buddy took us out on his boat. It was quite windy on Lake Erie even inside the outer walls. Buddy caught a silver bass right off the get go and let daughter reel it in He caught a small rock bass. Normally he'll catch 20,30 even 40 nice smallies. 3" Gulp minnows ( black n silver ) and 1/8 th oz jig heads. Her fish caught at the south gap of the outer wall in 15-20' of water. Lots of rolling waves even there. As I caught nothing I'm going back to the basics with the Snoppy combo ???? Walleye went back into the water. That one would have been great eating but we opted to release. Could smell Cheerios today So happy she was the one to catch it. She cast , she jigged , she reeled it in. Buddy and I were in awe at this fish. Nice mouthful of teeth Going to give it another whirl one of these days it's not so windy. Maybe even I'll catch something. Any guesses on length and weight of the 'eye ? Need to teach her long arming lol Edited July 10, 2016 by turkeyfeathers

turkeyfeathers
Measured width of daughters finger spread as in "holding " fish. Marked on piece of paper and then figured out how many "spreads" would go end to end of fish upon enlarging pic on computer. Part of tail missing in pic but came up with 29.25 " which per length to weight (of Lake Erie walleye) puts in neighborhood of 8 ish pounds to 9 pounds. I'd say on lighter side of that so 71/2 to 8 more realistic I've never caught one remotely that close in size. She wants to catch some crayfish in creek by our house and hit some smallies on my friends boat again soon.
moog5050
I love the rod and reel. I bet it has 3lb test on there too. That's a heck of a catch period, but with that rod and reel, well ..... SHE WINS!

That's a heck of a catch period, but with that rod and reel, well ..... SHE WINS! Lol, she wasn't using that. (dug that one out of the garage) That's the one I MAY resort to after getting skunked. She's got a nice closed faced combo. Hasn't mastered the open faced spinning reel yet
BizCT
That's a big walleye. What is a "white bass"? another name for white perch?
turkeyfeathers
That's a big walleye. What is a "white bass"? another name for white perch? silver bass. It's in the bass family. Resembles calico bass in shape but silver in color
