I'm afraid,very very afraid of my garden this year..WTH was I thinking planting a mid summer garden after the spring one? OMG! 76 tomato plants? 6 rows of bush and pole beans 20 cuke plants..12!!! zucchini...not to mention the eggplants and 34 pepper plants, winter squash ,watermelons musk melons, cabbages, brussel sprouts,beets,carrots swisschard,, ..then yes my corn....Oh ya it grew the second time and some stalks have 4 ears a piece on them.

You may be saying So what I'd love that...Well it's all ripening at the same Time.....I am now using cukes as lettuce for sandwiches...cuke salads...cuke snack......It is so hot canning is horrible.... See I plant a ton because EVERY year something happens..deer,birds,rabbits,coons early/late blights,fungus's ect.ect...not this year 4 tomatoes got blossom end and I corrected it with heavy doses of liquid lime....All this is not really complaining, just over whelmed and IT"S TOO DANG HOT..

So OK got that of my chest...I'll finish snipping this 1/4 bushel of beans....( just my 2nd picking )

I hope your gardens are growing great for you as well...

Its been real dry here so garden none to good here besides zukes. Glad someone has been getting a good bit!! Start canning Grow!

6 green bell pepper plants and have 2 peppers 

6 jalapeño plants and have 2 peppers 

6 tomato plants and have picked a few with a few more almost ready. 

Lettuce did fair early but fizzling out 

sugar snap peas were doing good until bunnies wiped then out  have not seen too many around this summer either although brother up to 139 chipmunks from his yard  Anynody need a chipmunk coat ? 

just pulled 10 garlic plants from last year. Currently drying the bulbs 

water every day. Plants stunted from heat and produced squat this year. 

Too much effort yielded too little produce

Sorry to hear guys...I watered just once back in late May or June...Yes hot and dry here too but I really think the difference this year is the heat...but every place I planted in the garden was a crop rotation...in other words where I had grown clover last summer /fall.  This spring I did not spray to kill but just cut it very short and rototilled it in...one area (root crops and some beans and some cukes) I had WW and clover and did the same. I really think it's the organic matter that held moisture and the nitrogen from the clover that helped...Also the fact the fox have been cazy around the garden this year...They will probably get a pass this fall hunting season for their efforts..The dry has kept the diseases at by...though just now, I saw mildew on a few...we have had a lot of night dew, but also night rains  as of late.

 After fighting with Mother Nature, rabbits, deer, and turkey,  starting buying all my produce down at the East Aurora flea market. Those people that run that little farmers market down there, have some of the best tasting fruits and vegetables at great prices. Their muskmelons are some of the best tasting I have had. The peaches and cherries came right out of our county, but he's selling at more affordable prices than I can purchase locally. We run down and buy enough for three families, then divide everything up . Some of you, I'm sure know who I'm talking about.

Side note : wife bought Maizy our 43 pound almost 6 year old Golden ( yes we feed her ) a poo looking dog treat from EA farmers market. Dog rolls on anything new. Dufus

I gave up on gardens a few years ago....support local farmers markets now. East Aurora has an outstanding one, and picked up there huge zucchini at the Hamburg market this morning for 3.00!

We got another. Storm last night...fun while grilling dinner. A real soaker and lots of ozone..Oh..what that will do.The winter squash is already out of control!, The fall garden tomato have flowers already and the  bean nearly do..... lettuce is out of control and cukes starting to vine,broccoli is 6" tall..spinach didn't do well. Never did get the peas going,but the ones in the food plot are 2' tall and flowering.

I'm resorting to my old stand by stress reliever...zucchini stew...lol.... The florescent stove bulb doesn't do it justice..looks as sick as I usually do in that lighting

zucchini,summer squash, garlic, onions, hot and green bell peppers, green and wax beans, tomatoes........it gets put up for winter...and takes care of all veggy groups in one shot...also good as a winter soup base.

Today I weeded for 3 hrs...the weeds went nuts with this rain...the summer/fall garden...was packed but mostly open now...the tomatoes that were 6 in. tall a couple of weeks ago are near 2ft with flowers...the beans are 18" and starting to flower the broccoli seed I planted.plants are 6"s high lettuce is just crazy and I found the spinach so it will take of soon. The new cuke plants are just starting to runner. I cut 6 heads of cabbage and some tomatoes and peppers...corn is spotty ..having a difficult time figuring out whats ripe and whats partial...The watermelon plants I bought weren't marked...thinking I have ice box ones...which are small in nature...so looking for the tendril to dry  for ripeness...so far 10 of them There will be an absolute crazy amount of winter squash and they are all huge...even the acorn are football size, 15 giant blue hubbards,20 butternut, and at least 30 pumpkins...river will have his pick of pumpkins for sure ...as well as a neighbor kid or two and my kids.... ...The deer have been walking around the mass of vines...I have that corn there as a distraction.. Well off to cut cabbage to freeze then start another pot of zucchini stew...looking at how to freeze cukes....I may freeze juice for smoothies and soups...checking that out now....

I've done just about everything this year with the intent if it gets ahead we can freeze it.  lots of different peppers, only three tomatoes but huge.  lots of garden beans (go out every few days and fill a bucket).  have onions that are just chillin'  just shy of 60 of those.  popping up.  got to cover them more again.  zucchini plants I planted 16 of those. I've pulled some plants that aren't doing as well.  tomatoes consumed a couple too.  stopped watering and no plant food for a while now.  still pick a few every couple days.

going to start blanching probably soon.  until then eating a ton of stuff with veggies. ....for almost a couple months now.  eating eggplant parm for lunch, to salad, to veggie spaghetti, casseroles, you name it. only really focused on peppers, onions, tomatoes, garden beans, and zucchini this year.  no cucumbers this year.

Eggplant...now that is a surprise...forgot to plant seed so I bought...some twit switched tags...White eggplant..no clue when it will be ripe nor  how big it will get...never had white eggplant...a couple of brusselsprouts bolted..oh well.   Cabbage frozen,cukes too...huge pot of zucchini stew is simmering down...smells great!  Cleaned out one freezer shelf 2011 , doe,cabbage and beet greens...don't know  how I've missed them the last few years.....no waste though defrost and go to dogs and chickens.

My kitchen looked like a food processing plant this morning....I was cutting and snipping ,blanching and cooling veggies big time...I did up grean/wax beans ,cabbage, corn and made zucchini lasagna to freeze for quick "hunting season. meals....10:30 and I'm tire already...lol...

Good thing Mr. B gave me the go ahead to send my first doe to Wilsons...It will be a cooler packed with ice ..hopefully a evening kill. Dress hang skin debone , cubed and packed off to Wilsons for snack sticks...Evening to avoid flies in warm weather.

You'd think with 2 uprights and 2 frig. freezers I'd have enough room...to bad I hate canned veggies.  I will be canning deer meat...this year...planning on one deer for that as well.

Notice I've been on here a lot today...Well 4 dozen ears of corn cooling ,another batch of snap beans also cooling ,a zucchini lasagna and a zucchini cake are in the oven... I'm Starting feel like I'm working in a sweat shop....

Phew...All done and headed out to pick beets more cukes ,corn and tomatoes before cooking dinner...but I can see half my kitchen table and all of my counters and both sinks are empty....at least hour an hour or so.....
