Now I have a lot to learn but going by rack size I would have thought that first deer was older....I guess 1.5 year old bucks can range pretty greatly in headgear...

easiest way to approach it is to show the pics with the antlers blocked out. Then it is all body features. The first pic is a classic 1.5 year old.

the body size difference on that deer is impressive. Someone has been eating well. Look at the difference in his neck!

I'd love to see the jaw on that one. I am betting 3-1/2.  I can't see the actual waist because of the tree, but he has that "race horse" appearance. and a fuller neck to the brisket than I would expect on a 2-1/2 year old.
