And do u crossbow hunters realize that the record books! The true record books don't even consider the crossbow to be a bow!! default_rofl.gif please find me a minimum score for the crossbow from pope and young!!!

What % let off is your compound? Didn't P&Y have to change the rule on that? Same with lighted knocks.

Do you hunt from a treestand? Seems pretty easy/boring to me. Since your not on the ground face to face with the animal, it doesn't matter that you have to draw back.

Point is, nobody is forcing you to use an xbow so why do u care if others use it? Are you afraid xbows hunters will shoot "your deer"? If that's the case, then pony up and buy more land for yourself and don't allow xbows on it.

The inevitable is coming- sooner or later xbows will receive full inclusion in NY like they do in many other states. xbow hunters will then shoot some bigger bucks in early October when bucks are easier to pattern. Is that what your mad about? Who cares about other people. I don't care how people Hunt as long as its legal.

Bowhuters who oppose full inclusion seem to be vastly outnumbered  by those who support it.  Clearly that is true with members of this site (as was indicated on the poll in the bowhunting section that mysteriously went away soon after those in favor opened up a 2:1 lead over those opposed).  In my own group of hunting friends, more than 90% support full inclusion, and they are almost all bowhunters.  Actually, that is now 100%, because the last holdout bought a crossbow last season after wounding and not recovering a buck with his compound.

The 4 or 5 holdouts on this site are certainly putting up a good fight.  I just want to let them know that I admire their tenacity, and wish them no ill will.  I promise that I will not fight to have vertical bows banned, even though I believe they are more likely to wound deer.  I have no problem with verticals as long as the required time and effort is put in (I agree that a lot more of that is needed than with a crossbow.)  All this internet arguing doesn't leave me enough time to practice.

I think string jump causes most of the wounded deer.  String jump is only an issue when shooting at alert deer, and deer often go alert when they catch a glimpse of the draw.  Tip: aim for a low-heart shot on a deer, especially if you grunt or rattle him in or if you think it might have got a glimpse of your draw.   If it ducks on release, you get a center or high-lung hit.  If it stays in place, you get a heart hit.  In either case, a dead, easily recovered deer.   If you aim center-lung on an alert deer you are asking for a shoulder blade or above the spine hit.

I'm a bow hunter,,,  but I don't dictate what others do,,, if the law says I can do it then I will, if I choose too,,, if you don't like it there are 49 other states to choose from ...

So you really don't care what weapons they include in bow season ..... Right? As far as you are concerned, anybody should be able to use whatever they want in the bow season because you "don't dictate what others do". Bring it on ..... right? There's a lot of that going on these days .... lol. It kind of makes you wonder why they call it bow season.

I think think you have it wrong. There are a lot of bowhunters here. Most just understand what hunting is about and know that inclusion won't effect their enjoyment. I've been bowhunting since 1983. The hunting we have here now and the availability of deer are heads and shoulders above what it was. Not only the amount of deer out there but the tag structure the state has now.

Trust me! There aren't that many bow hunter on this site! Only a few. The rest are a bunch of so called hunters who want to grab any weapons that they are allowed to and go slaughter the deer.

I believe i am a bow hunter, I think i was out there about everyday cept the real nasty ones but i also tried the Crossbow for thw first time this year. I love the thing BUT what a pain in the A$$.  Try pulling one of those things 20 feet up into a pine tree,  Wear a climber on your back, grab the Xbow and head to the bottom of Letchworth. What a pain. Has a strap but sure cant use it and have to carry the thing like a baby in your arms. Then after you set the string you are playing with something that will bite ya real hard if you hit the trigger with your arm or hand in the way. That power will break something.

The thing is easier to shoot than my Mathews but sure not easier to use and i dont see many people putting up with the pain just to get into bow season. If your not in a blind with shooting sticks My Ten Point is a pain in the A$$ but a pretty sweet shooting piece of hunting equipment.........

Still at it huh...

I use to care...now I do not because with nearly every gun hunter here being a bow hunter the die has already been cast and I am already seeing the results. That said, for those of you who aren't in this situation and are all gung ho for the entire archery season to be open to crossbows......Well mark these words on 12-30-16....in no more than 3 years after inclusion...you will be wishing they hadn't done it. Oh there will still be deer, there's no doubt and guys will still be shooting big deer and doe....but I can guarantee and not being a person that bets on anything but a sure thing, more will be in illegal hours than legal. Which happens now anyways, but will increase and push those movement times back even further. Unless you are hunting hundreds of privately owned lands and control all pressure put on those deer. The average hunter will be wandering around wondering where all the deer went and blaming the DEC. This I will find funny, not only did they cut their deer sighting over all bow and gun for themselves, They cut out one more group to blame.... for now they are the bow hunters...The whole thing makes me smile in wonderment. Never seeing the forest through the trees....

Doc Im one of the crazys that thinks this is a type of bow you know with a string, limbs and pointy stick, Im still looking where to load the gun powder and lead.

Must be the trigger and stock that confuses people but I guess thats really no different than the trigger I wear around my wrist when I bow hunt ...There lots of sayings you know you can take the trailer out of the park but not the park out of the trailer, can put lipstick on a pig its still a pig,, its still a string and a stick..

I dont make the laws or rules and if the DEC says I can use a weapon that in my eyes is very similar and has the same components that the natives used,, a string and a stick then well why not,, if it improves my odds to harvest a deer when the opportunity arises why does that bother anyone..

The OPs original question was how will it affect the whitetail population and I feel it will have little effect...

My son choose to hunt with his bow at the season end where I choose not to he could of used his crossbow he didnt,, he still made his own choice..

Poaching at night is done from a vehicle by sticking a we a pon out the window and shooting. Try sticking a crossbow out the window of a vehical. Hard to increase night poaching with a weapon you have to get out of vehicles to use. Deer would be gone before you c old shoot them. Any place they would let you stop and get out while they are only 40 or 5 yards away must have a lot of pet deer.

Answer this if the crossbow is such a great weapon for poaching deer then why has it not been used until now? Being legal to hunt with has nothing to do with it. They could always own a crossbow before. Funny they wait to use such a magical weapon to illegally kill deer until it is legal to hunt with. A 22 is the most used weapon for poaching deer yet you can not hunt deer with them legally.  So why did they wait to use the magical killing machine.

What poacher wants to track an arrow shot through the woods with a light for everyone to see?
