Great quality too.  My 30-30 is a tack driver with wood that rivals guns that cost 3x as much.

I am a fan of Henry but I am disappointed in the cartridge selection in the new single shots. One of the things that made the H&R's so popular was their diversity in chamberings. I have a half dozen handis and their all in odd ball chamberings and that's why I own them. 500s&w, 45colt, 35whelen, 35 Remington etc.

They may widen their selection if / when they see sales numbers. I still think it is a good move by Henry. BTW, I don't even own a Henry rifle... but may soon. 


If they're waiting until that happens we may never see them. Single shots have always been a very small market. Only a couple manufacturers make a "inexpensive" single shot center fire and they don't fly off the shelves. I have to imagine that if there was any money in single shots Remington would have kept making the handis because they already had the equipment. I hope I am wrong and they sell like hot cakes but I don't see it happening.

They will have to make something pretty awesome for me to spend twice the money for a Henry instead of a cva and the cva has more options in chamberings.

To me Henry has missed the mark again much like their long range. But I hope I am wrong because I do like Henry's products and their values.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat if they chambered .303 British or perhaps 30/40 Krag...

But then I'm just an eccentric old fart....<,grin>>....

Ruger made a limited run of .303s in their #1 a few years back, but they marketed them in Canada..I'd love to have one of those.

Ruger made a limited run of .303s in their #1 a few years back, but they marketed them in Canada..I'd love to have one of those.

From one old fart to another, I just saw your dream gun on GB. It's a Dakota Sharps chambered in 30/40 Krag. It could be yours for a paltry $4300. Go for it big guy. LOL

Actually, if I  were to get a Sharps it would have to be in one the original straight walled chamberings that it was designed for..

I'm kind of a traditionalist that way.....I'd have some good local support, too...The local gunsmith in Campbell  worked for Sharps for about 10 years as a master gunsmith...He is a wonderful gunsmith and is also very talented in metal working ( engraving) inlays and stock work such as checkering and carving, and he is very much into late nineteenth century single shot rifles..

Pyg I thought of you today. I was up in kittery and they had a 1903 in 35 krag and it was a carbine! Didn't want much money for it either. It was tempting being a 35 but man was that bugger heavy! I have read about them before but this is the first time I have saw one. I guess it was a somewhat popular wildcat for shot out barrels.

Very interesting. Seems little old Campbell has had many talented folks there. I had a terrific taxi job done (from a guy there) on a nice 9 point archery buck I shot about 18 years ago. The mount is still perfect. I have a cousin that lives in Campbell. As a matter of fact, my Uncle used to be a JP in Campbell. He was kind of an oddball though.

Kittery.....Cool place !!

I never saw a .35 Krag either...Ballistically I am guessing it would be sort of like a .35 Rem on steroids...A little more power than the Rem, but less than the Whelen...

That taxidermist is still around but he's a salaried employee for Corning Inc. now..He still does occasional mounts for special friends.. I had a couple mounts done by him ( in my former life)  and his work was superb..

I think I may know who your uncle was  << wink, wink>>....

Yea it was neat and should be an excellent killer. Just not my cup of tea but a cool piece of history.

Those Springfields ARE heavy....My 03A3 sporter weighs nearly as much as my M1 Garand....Of course they can be lightened, but removing that extra weight cost $$$...

I did a little search on the .35 Krag....Even dies need to be custom made...COOL , but not too practical, at least for a poor  old white boy like me...
