Driving laws require all vehicle operators to be in full control of their vehicles at all times.  Therefore operating a vehicle under the influence of booze, pot, prescription drugs, or anything like that, is already illegal.  Using any distracting device, like a cell phone or GPS, is also currently covered under the careless driving laws.

Legalizing anything in society does not mean it would be legal to use while driving.  People that are responsible drivers will not get behind the wheel if they are not in control.  People who are not responsible drivers are already out there on the highway with you.

BTW, one of the biggest threats to drivers on the road today are tired drivers who fall asleep.

I personally know people that say they can concentrate better while high.. idk i still wouldnt want someone smoking weed and racing with me on the track. same goes for driving. just my thought tho.

I graduated in 97..picked up smokin regular..wake n bake and all..started welding the same yr..i drove 35 mi there and  35 back home..forktrucks..10 ton overhead crane andvarious other dangerous tools..became shop supervisor for my last 3 yrs before unemployment hit..no accidents and only pulled over 2wice..once for no taillights..and yes speeding..im not trying to brag..just enlighten ..i also quit because i have children..i do miss it somthin horrible..

I would say that you would make a good poster child for why not to smoke weed Rocket... Plus.. what people observe of themselves when smoking weed is far different than others see.

There is no way anyone can justify or argue that any type of impairment is an improvement to one's physical or mental abilities.

My point here is, it shouldn't be a felony or illegal to be an azzhole.  It's not a crime, just stupid.  If stupidity were outlawed, half the population would be in jail.

One can have a beer or drink without getting drunk...  I often have a glass of wine with dinner and have yet to stumble away from the table... the same is not true with drugs... use of drugs is for one purpose only and that is to get high...

can't answer when I'm not here.. but now that I am... I have a glass of wine because I like the taste of wine with my meal.. as for you not melting into the couch... that is you perception of yourself when you are high... and like I have already said a person who is high doesn't see himself the same way others who are not high would see you... High is High... just like drunk is drunk.

One does not smoke weed or crack, snort cocaine, or shoot heroin, because they enjoy the taste with a meal... they do it for one reason and one reason only to get High...which is an escape from reality.

I drink beer every weekend..to take the edge off from my 12 hr days..i dont get drunk..at most ill have 6 beers a dayfrom lunch to bed..im not the only one..alchohol, cocaine, heroine, perscription pills, tobacco..all addicting drugs..not ghanja..i kno i lived it..quit cold turkey..you having one drink with dinner ...which im bettin yer highclass ..so more expensive wines have more alchohol by volume than beer..that drink could be equal to 2beers..so yer gonna get somthin out of it..its called self control that keeps you from pourin another drink..you said you can drink without being drunk..same goes for marijuana..you can "catch a buzz" without being baked..

Culv, I think Pat was reffering to wines that have a higher % of alcohol, some as high as 17%, but most are in the 12% range. I know you were looking at averages though.

I checked real quick and it looks like they still make the stuff, just not in our area of the country. That stuff is widely known as bum wine, for a good reason. lol There are other wines that are fortified aswell that are less of a favorite with the bum's due to cost. Apparently alcohol %'s are increasing in wines over time, but it doesn't really make a huge difference unless you are drinking multiple bottles at a time, and if you are doing that, seek help..haha

Believe me I know all there is to know about getting high.. I grew up in the 70's... a small glass of wine with dinner is nowhere near the same as a small buzz... spin it how ever you want.. high is high.. buzzed is high... drunk is high... none of which is good for dealing with reality... that fact that alcohol is legal has nothing to do condoning drunkeness... legalizing drugs would be legalizing getting high and condoning getting high because thats all you can do with mind altering drugs..

I'm not saying that at all... I'm talking about the drugs not the people that take them... if we could count on people though to always do the intelligent thing... we wouldn't need laws for anything... but because we can't count on people to do the right thing... sometimes we need to save them from themselves and the affect they might have on society as a whole.

Having said that... if the majority of Americans wanted to legalize drugs.. I'm sure they would be legal.. that is not the case however
