reeltime
Not a bad few hours on the ice but it was going away quick. I will not be venturing out again till we get a refreeze. Put another 6 lbs of clean fillets in the freezer so my perch supply is building back up. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
stubborn1VT
I hear that. I fished yesterday and kept a half bucket of decent bluegills. I fillet them, and they're my favorite. Or at least tied with perch. Ice isn't looking great. I guess they are driving trucks on in Northern Vermont, but I hate to make the drive. My stock of fish is slowly rebuilding. Hopefully we get some more winter so I get another crack at those fishes! For now, I think I'll err on the side of caution.
reeltime
yeah never a good idea to take chances on sketchy ice. I always think about the folks that have to risk their lives to come save mine,,,,, I used to be the one risking my life to safe the ones foolish enough to venture out on thin/bad ice. there is not a fish swimming worth risking your life over.. with that being said I am gonna try something today while not being on the ice will require drilling holes in the ice to fish.... should prove interesting. It is looking better after we get thru this week. The extended forecast is showing no temperatures above freezing after that for the Northern part on NY state anyhow. We are heading up in February when my daughters have their winter break from school. Fortunately, my in laws have one of those floating plastic docks up there, that they leave in all winter. Also, the water level in the lake was at an all time high level, prior to freeze, thanks to the monsoon rains that came on opening weekend of gun-season. If the ice is questionable, we will just stay on the dock and drill our holes off the end.

coonhunter
My brother and I are done until cold weather. We have had a pretty good run on the crappies at night, but the ice at our lakes and ponds is shot and the shores are gone.
reeltime
No good ice, saw 3 people walk out to fish. Ice is soft and going away fsst. We drilled holes along a dock and beat up the perch. I also got a crappie and a mud puppy... first of those thru the ice on a jig rod. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
turkeyfeathers
I caught like 5 or 6 of them dang mudpuppies year ago on the same day while dunking worms off the bottom of the Catt steelhead fishing. After the 2nd one I realized it's impossible to remove the hook. It's like trying to remove a hook out of the tongue of a leather boot. Cut and re tie another one on. Oh yeah, found out don't net them either as they wrap up pretty nicely in the netting.
Buckmaster7600
I am in the process of digging the boat out of the snowbank to get out on lake George Monday or Tuesday. What the hell happened to winter this year?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
stubborn1VT
Part of me thinks a January thaw is normal, but this is a bit much. I took out a bucket of scrap from cleaning fish and our pasture is MUD. Boating makes more sense at this point. I don't really fish open water (too busy working) so I'm hoping for ice to get my fish for the year.
Buckmaster7600
Last year we fished lake Champlain all winter in the boats and it was the best salmon fishing I have ever experienced. We never had a bad trip. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
stubborn1VT
I looked at boats all last year, but didn't have the $$. I'm only about 7 miles from the lake, but I don't fish all summer. The reason I want a boat is because of the salmon fishing. Oh well. I did get out on some safe ice in the Northeast Kingdom and caught some slab perch. What part of the lake are you fishing Buckmaster>

stubborn1VT
Nice. I'm pretty much across from Willsboro. I get out on Converse Bay 1 or 2X a year in a buddy's boat.
