Dog could have been quickly changing direction to one side and hence leaning when the arrow hit, so there's no way to know for sure the person was below the dog.

My guess is they were deliberately shooting for it. The dog got extremely lucky with that. Didn't hit vitals, nor did it hit liver or guts. Just super, super lucky (notwithstanding the fact it got hit, that is).

It's odd to me how little penetration the arrow got, seems like unless it was quite a distance or extremely low poundage bow, being a field point it would've zipped right through? I agree the angle is also a bit odd, like Moog said, a ricochet shot would seem most probable to me, it explains the lack of penetration also.

What the authorities should do FIRST is go to the local school and see if there are any kids with behavioral issues strong enough to look at living in at the very least a mile radius of the owners home...Then canvas the area for witnesses..to at least the direction the dog had taken....

I think it was a kid , low poundage bow . Anyone hunting should have broadheads ,maybe the occasional field point in the quiver . If they were hunting and had a field point ,it should have zipped right through.

Yup some kid screwing around I would bet. Like you said low poundage and any hunter this time of year wouldn't be hunting with field points and judging by the arrow entry it might have been a ricochet from misjudging distance and the arrow skipping off the ground.

I didn't look at the pics til now because I have a serious problem with this kind of stuff. If that was my dog and I found out who shot him they would be in serious danger.

That wasn't any kids bullshit, that is a flat out kill shot on a Yellow Lab, someones pet, if that was my Lab, and I found out who shot him, you better keep a close eye on your wife's parents, and your kids
