fasteddie
Interesting article but I would still make sure that I could outrun whoever I was in the woods with !
First-light
Two years ago on opening day we had a mother and two cubs hanging around our tree stands. I got within 30 yards of the cubs. The mother just kept on eating corn. She would look up every now and then. It was getting dark and they were in our path back to the cabin. All the yelling in the world did not move them, in fact the cubs became more curious. It took two shots in the air to move them along. When I walk my property off season I carry bear spray, you never know.
Culvercreek hunt club
""For example, a black bear that grabbed 11-year-old Samuel Ives from his family’s tent in Utah’s American Fork Canyon in 2007, killing him, had apparently slashed another tent earlier that day. Last week, a judge awarded the family $1.95 million, saying the federal Forest Service should have warned them about a dangerous bear. "" Here is a news flash for the Judge----you camp in a tent out in the wild, in bear country. Bad things could happen. erussell
Bears are getting thick here in Broome County, Its very rare not to go into certain parts of the woods and not see a bear and on several occasions last yr up to 5 in one day. Could have shot a few but I really don't know what to do with one if I do shoot one. Have had one experience with a young bear that was none to happy I was in his woods while I was bow hunting one yr and he gave me an escorte out of the woods all the way back to my car. I would like to start taking my daughter with me hunting as she keeps asking to go but with all the bears around I don't dare.

It's just a matter of time I see one while walking my property with my Daughters. I make it a point to carry the spray, we have two cell phones and there is a plan in place. We talk about the plan before every walk. Two years ago we hit the hard woods that had been logged years prior. There were a lot of stumps in the area and you could tell the bears were tearing them apart looking for insects. It was a bit unnerving with my kids in tow so we got out of there quickly. The kids picked up real quick on my uneasiness.
