RangerClay
I'm going to be hunting near a small private airport. It is completely fenced in and no I don't plan to hunt inside. My question is, do I have to be a certain distance from the fence? Are there special Federal regulations for hunting near an airport? It's the airport in Hamilton. It's small and I believe Colgate owns it. Jets do come and go.
Al Bundy
The airport I used to fly is in the middle of a dairy farm and the landowner leases the hunting rights every year. I do not know the details and this is likely a smaller airport than what you are talking about. But.. hunting goes on. I came a bit close to getting a deer with a Cessna one day while landing. Small herd was hanging out on the end of the runway where I couldnt see them. I was never made aware of any special laws about the airport when I learned to fly. I am assuming you are OK with normal hunting rules. Obviously if you are using a rifle, know your target and beyond.
philoshop
The DEC or FAA would have an answer to that question. The airport you're hunting near would also have an answer, maybe more specific. The only thing I can give you is, "Don't shoot at the planes."
nosquibs
I would check in with the DEC and under NO circumstance would I ask the FAA! I think your going to find that as long as you have permission from the landowner your good to go.
GreeneHunter
I used to fly out of South Albany Airport and occasionally had to divert / go around landing because of Deer on the runway .... could have used more hunters in the area ! Have no idea about whats permissible around an airport though !
Hunter007
Yea there are dont shoot at the airplanes and over the runway or in the direction of the hangers the rules are pretty self explanatory. Just be careful and use common sense and nobody will bother you .
