ApexerER
I was down at the lease this past weekend for the first time since hunting season. No food is planted this year. We had soybeans on the North Farm when I got the big 9 in my avatar so I think I am down on there not being food. The year after we had nothing planted and then last year we had soybeans and corn on the south farm. This year the fields are just all overgrown. The food being planted is a recent plus to the lease. We have gone years and years without food planted and someone in our group always gets a nice one. Gotta say having the food source right there makes me more optimistic for some reason. Last year during bow season I sat near the corn and counted 30+ deer in an afternoon sit and 6 or 7 different small bucks. (I am sure some of the doe were the same deer going into and out of the corn) The solar panels getting installed on the field on the North Farm looks like a stalled project. There are frames for several panels installed but the guys that live closer than I do said they started that in the spring and it has looked exactly the same for months. Hopefully they won't start back on it during the season. Gotta rent a brush hog and clear all the trails in the next couple of week and be out of there by Sept 1st...Lots of work to do checking stands, redoing posted signs etc...
moog5050
Toss down some rye and oats, even if only in the trails you brush hog. Can’t hurt
turkeyfeathers
Once the rut kicks in it’s bucks covering miles and miles looking / chasing a hot doe. Plots or not : be in a stand and opportunities will happen.

BizCT
It will grow without being tilled? It you build it, they will come. This is old 2014 test spot I tried in middle of woods. Several deer came everyday until there was nothing left. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

LET EM GROW
I love over grown fields.. they typically have food growing in and underneath.. and it also doubles as cover. and a go to on windy days. The food is nice to have depending on what it is, and when or how it is harvested. If you looking to plant food, there are several easy seeds you can sow on top of soil before a rain. Take a corner and spread your seed, then drive over it knocking everything down over top of the seed and let rain do the rest.
The_Real_TCIII
If you’re out there with the brush hog even just clearing something will pull critters inSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
