Question about new trail cam

Silly question but I finally bought a trail cam ,sick of hunting deer lanes and not knowing which stand to hunt. How High off the ground should I mount this thing? Thanks

You should read the instructions that came with it to be sure, but my camera says 3' off the ground.

Depends if you want just deer or sm game as well... 3-4 feet for deer 2 -3 for small game . set at least at a 45 degree angle to a trail , never at 90 degrees...i dont care how fast a trigger speed is you'll miss game.. 45degrees make the activation zone much larger and your subject will most likely be centered.f Food plots and scrapes are fine strait on as deer will be in front of cam feeding or sniffing.

I like to hang mine at 2ft.for a couple reasons. First it keeps the cam out of a deers direct line of sight. Secondly it cuts down on the trigger range so your cam is not getting set off at deer out to the 50 ft detection range. I just like a good closeup better of the entire deer without having to enlarge the pic to determine rack features. 3'rdly it keeps your cam out of the human eye line of sight as well. You could mount it above head level for this to also be effective theft deterent, but you really cut down your trigger area that way and will have a lot of deer walk right through your shot unless you have something down to stop them.

Just play around with it. Test it out in the yard and walk by it at different distances and look at the pics. You'll get a feel for how high it should be.

I always put mind at waist height, facing North (to avoid sun shots) and try to angle it on the trail... Hope thsat helps.

3ft is about the average height, but also take into consideration the angle of approach...whether the deer are coming on an incline or decline..I had trail cams set up on a well used trail but it was a very steep incline I had pleanty of pics of the top of thier heads..as posted by Cabin Fever set up your cam in your backyard and test it out..it will save you time and that will be time well spent out in the woods shooting that deer you took pics of correctly.

I tend to hang a bit higher...I'm hanging them 8 ft and higher now and angling down. Less chance of getting stolen, better view for information (buck identification) and also seems to be way better at avoiding the deer's attention.
