The Adirondack Mtns could be a gold mine if there were allowed to be logged. It would just take well laid out plan. For instance: DEC could mark the trees to be harvested. Independent loggers could bid the jobs and pay the state a contracted amount. If the loggers were to cut unmarked trees they would be fined per tree and lose the opportunity. The trails could then be used for more snowmobiling and even certain ares could be designated atv trails in the warmer months. The deer herd would benefit from this as well.

It's In the NY constitution; the forever wild language. (adopted 1894)

So either 2 successive legislative sessions have to approve a change and put it for public vote for an amendment.

Or it has to be changed during a NY constitutional convention if one is called.

Once they designate new land as forever wild its done for, with no burning the only option is logging and that aint gonna happen.

They already do this in much of the states forests .

The ADK Park is a different animal.

Although there are several land classifications specific to ADK's; the designations are statewide that define forever wild, and restrict logging for example.

Frankly most of the ADK's were controlled by large companies that could log. And most were not economically feasible, sold into land conservancies and sold to the state in one way or another. Finch Pruyn would be a recent example.

True . Many of these lands didn't get sold to the state but the state bought easements.  Most of these are still run as logging lands..  there are 100,000s of acres of state controlled land in the northern Adks (near me)that are productive logging lands.

Or, if Emperor Cuomo could figure a way to divert some of the proceeds to his own pockets, he could call a special vote at 10 minutes to twelve with no chance for debate to change the state constitution, and ramrod it through.

Sadly, a lot of the papermills that utilized so much of NYS forest for pulp have been closed down for lack of demand. Housing market is down, just little demand. In the Western Adks foothills over recent years they have been removing the old paper mills in Lyons falls and surrounding areas. The loss of newspapers readership has gone along ways in this. It is amazing how huge a market it was, but you can look at the CNY Syracuse based Post Standard for an example. they have gone almost entirely on line, and the paper they produce now is a shadow of what it once was for lack of readership.
