Generally speaking, if you shoot them through both lungs, they aren't going very far.  And you even have margin for error.

I like practicing both with my rifles and crossbow with the targets that highlight the deer's vital areas available in most sporting good stores

Trouble is, they are not highlighted on live deer. But you've killed enough of em to know that! Right?

but it is actually a very good conditioning exercise.

I shoot at a block target with vitals. I would like to buy a deer target though. I think having that visual while you practice puts you in a more comfortable state of mind when the real thing shows up.

Is that why the deer I see and shoot don't have bright red aiming points on their sides lol?
