Recurve - Shootable?

I ran across a young man last week that's very enthusiastic about becoming an outdoorsman. He's 11 yo. He wants to shoot archery of course! I told him I'd see what I could find for him. 

I havent shot traditional in 25yrs but dug up a 40# Indian Archery recurve and a bunch of other gear. I shot it some and THEN sat down to inspect it (dumb). The bow's beat up cosmetically but appears in good shape overall?

One small delamination starting on the riser. This doesn't concern me. But the string pockets on the limb tips are iffy. I have a newer string in good condition. Top limb is decent. Bottom limb tip was covered with tape. Took off the tape and not very good at all. 

Does anyone have advice to repair the limb tip? I have to make sure this is safe to hand off to a youngster. Thanks.

I would not chance that. It might work for awhile but those tips might let loose and ruin his drive to shoot. Bows are scary when they let loose, I know from experience!! There are people that can fix bows but don't know what the price would be.

I’d round file it and look for something different.  I had one blow Christmas Day once......traumatizing to me at 12 years old.

Had a bear grizzly let loose on me yrs ago. The limb hit my forearm and left one hell of a welt.

That doesn't look good. Always better to play it safe. If it were me, I'd look for another bow for the youngster.

That bow is shot and not worth messing with, check out ebay, there are many really nice used recurves for sale and for a smart shopper there are some real deals.
