Versatile_Hunter
The NRA's former #2 is publishing a new book highlighting the organization's chronic mismanagement and use of toxic scare tactics. Here's a quote from the article: "A hunter since childhood and former Chicago options and derivatives trader, Mr. Powell says that the N.R.A. has fundamentally lost its way, abandoning “its roots as an organization focused on gun safety and education.” That has led it to limit its own long-term membership growth, he argues, by turning its back on the majority of gun owners who support background checks." As the face of gun ownership, it's imperative that hunters help craft the message and form that the resulting gun rights advocacy takes, rather than than being passively shaped by it. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/03/us/politics/nra-book-wayne-lapierre.html
airedale
Yes a crock of libtard bullshit straight from the NY Times who would like nothing better than to destroy the organization. It is not only Hunters that need to craft the message as there are plenty of folks in shooting sports and just folks that have guns for protection. Making it about Hunters is their sneaky way of eliminating those black rifles and handguns who do not need to own such weapons to hunt. Lifetime NRA member here who just proudly sent in a donation Al

And it sure wasn't for the crappy free knife or tote bag.

Having our gun rights advocated by groups that want teachers to be armed and that can't get behind universal background checks is not in our interest, whether you're a hunter or you're preparing for the apocalypse. airedale
As expected another troll post from the "super duper", there are a zillion laws on the books now that are not enforced, who the hell do you think is doing all those killings in the Dem run cities, how about that looking you straight in the face because it ain't the folks that are on this board that hunt and shoot breaking gun laws. I have a big time problem being punished for something I had nothing to do with! Al Edited September 3, 2020 by airedale

Bigfoot 327
Yes, the NRA opposed universal background checks last year. The bill in the House of Representatives as originally written would have required your neighbor pass a background check before you they could handle any of your firearms for any reason. Even if you were in the privacy of your own home and you were just showing off your brand new gun. Just because many people support universal background checks, doesn't mean they support every stupid law our legislators come up with!
ADK Native
This article on background checks is a couple years old, but highlights the gross failure. https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2018/09/19/gun-buyers-lie-and-try-only-12-prosecuted-editorials-debates/1288699002/ The article states “The FBI, in reviewing instant background checks for firearm purchases, detected 112,000 lie-and-try crimes in fiscal 2017 alone, and federal investigators had names and addresses on the filled-out forms. How many were prosecuted? Twelve, according to a recent Government Accountability Office report.” Only 12 out of 112,000? Where did the other 111,988 go?
