Lawdwaz
Summer of 2010 I bought a pistol from member Pygmy here. He guaranteed success if I followed his advice. He said that I needed to work hard at developing a load, practice and hope for the best! Wise man that he is, it worked. Although I never got a chance to hunt with the rig last year, I vowed to carry it when ever possible this season and hopefully connect with it. I have a piece of ground that I hunt later in the season in Lima that has a huge chunk of golden rod/CRP that the deer just hang out in all day. They pass through it, bed, feed, hide etc. (sometimes die) I took a 3 legged shooting bench, front rest, piece o camo, bucket etc. and set up shop for what I figured would be a interesting morning. The first deer I saw came from the road to the south of me and when they finally gave me an opportunity they were 40 yards away and passed by at 20 yards. I just wasn't looking for a shot that close with the LR pistol so I passed them up. 7 total in the flock. Saw a bunch of others but the shots were not safe so they got a pass. Finally a doe appeared at 259yards, broadside and I missed. Damn. 30 minutes later a group of 4 came down the hill from the west and gave a great shot at 210 yards. At the shot, she bolted back to the west and stumbled after going about 100 yards. The Remington XP 100R, chambered in .260 Remington and stuffed with Berger VLD bullets did the trick. It worked out good with the bench and front rest. Maybe not exactly "field conditions" that most use but when in Lima............................................ She was a real nice sized doe. Good eating as always!

Lawdwaz
Thanks guys. I was ready to sell the pistol, then I thought about dragging the bench out to that field for the hunt. I'd been having fits trying to get it set up properly and prone ain't happening for me!! I know the bench set up is not for everyone but it worked for me! Looking forward to next year............. Pygmy
If my musty old memory serves me right, I killed 5 deer with that pistol. One was a chip shot in the woods, about 30 yards. The other 4 were all about 200 to 250 yards. All of my shots except the close one in the woods were made resting with the bipod, either prone or resting on a round hay bale... Lawdwaz
All the places I want to use it prone either the grass is too high or my belly is toooooo big. It just wouldn't work. Tried a ground blind made with old blowdowns and dead wood. That seemed like it was going to work except the deer didn't cooperate. I was thinking of buying some mulch bales and making a little fort, just like when I was a kid. That would be pretty cool......!!
