Bow season is only 287 days away .............

Kind of crazy to open the season that early down there in my opinion. We open way to early up here also with a sept 27th opening with last years tags and then 2 weeks of bow and then 8 weeks of gun season's. Looks like seasons will be that long down there soon also.

I have to figure out how to draw the bow with one hand and swat skeeters with the other at the same time.

Here's the interesting part of such an early start..... there is more time to hunt without rut involved. I wonder how that is going to work. It might be a good thing with more normal bedding and feeding patterns. I'm kind of anxious to try it out ...... just for something different. Might not like it at all. It would be interesting to see if the DEC will be keeping any records on when bow-killed deer are harvested to see if the early opener was really worth all the hassell. Supposedly they should have all the data available to do that kind of study.

Can someone please direct me to the official reference of a SZ bow season opening on OCT 1, 2012.

Seen the DEC Proposed Plan suggesting that date, but that plan isn't approved yet. Is it?

Did see mention of Westchester Co. opening then.

Appears to be a lot of rumors & assumptions, but nothing official for 2012.

Is there? Am I wrong?

The 5 year plan was accepted, it is no longer a proposal.

The November 4 issue of New York Outdoor News states that the DEC Ok'ed the Whitetail Proposal . The only thing up in the air is the "Youth Hunt" .

Heck- I love the early season (sep 15) in CT. Deer are on a bed-feed pattern and bucks are still in bachelor groups. The skeeters, black flies, ticks, and deer keds are a pain though. Thermacell will get some more business.

This is something I have been hoping for yrs.Glad it's finally happening.Many states have an Oct 1st opener.
