New dog

The Sunday after Thanksgiving we had to put our 14 month old labradoodle down due to cancer. We have a 10 year old standard poodle.

We are gonna be in the market for a new puppy in the early spring. Not sure yet which kind. We have had 4 dogs total over the last 20 years. The 2 listed above, a snoodle,and a beagle. 

Biggest factor for us is little kid friendly.  Leaning toward lab, but not sure. With some of what people have said on here, perhaps a gsp but really know nothing about them. As a kid , my family had a bassett, and a redbone which were really good dogs. If over the next few months anyone has pups I maybe interested.  Thought this could be a good place to begin looking.

Do you want a dog that will hunt too, or just a house dog ?

If just a house dog, there's plenty of pound puppies available that need a loving home.

I want a dog I can train. Hunt, track, ect.

I vote for a Brittany. He was a great family dog and then when he saw the gun case and his blaze collar he was all business.

Depends what you want to hunt, but a lab will probably fit the bill if youre not sure. They wont point, but they'll hunt anything a pointing dog can do as well as waterfowl hunt
