Elmo
Do you prefer a longer or shorter length of pull? With the desire to have shorter and lighter rifles, would having a short length of pull effect the shooting performance?
Grouse
A shorter L.O.P. than needed, will absolutely effect shooting performance, especially on quick shots where the rifle has to be brought into play and fired very quickly. A rifle has to fit the shooter to shoot well for that shooter. Felt recoil also increases when the stock doesn't fit well. Cutting the length of the stock or the barrel is not the right way to reduce the weight of a rifle. You want to cut down on weight without cutting down on performance. Lawdwaz
13.5" is what works for me. I wouldn't want one any longer or shorter. I have a friend who has his all cut or made to 12.75 or 13" for deer hunting because 90% of the time he has a heavy coat on and the shorter pull works great, for HIM. fasteddie
I have considered buying a shorter stock to fit a rifle and see how it works for me . My arms are short and the rifle doesn't fit me well .
fasteddie
The length of pull on my Handi-rifles is 14 1/4" . A Youth stock is 11 3/4" . A difference of 2 1/2" . Not sure if the Youth Stock would be too short but it would be less expensive than having it cut down .
Grouse
You could get the Youth stock and put a slip on recoil pad on it if it's too short.
Elmo
You could get the Youth stock and put a slip on recoil pad on it if it's too short. Funny you mentioned. I just ordered the Handi Rifle in a youth model on Friday. I plan on buying an replacement stock. My length of pull is 13 and 1/2 inches. I figure I'm closer to the 14 and 1/4" adult stock then the 11 and 3/4" youth stock. I wanted the youth model because it's the only one in their line that offers 223 caliber with iron sights. Plus it's a shorter barrel. The adult version is slightly longer barrel without iron sights.
WNYBuckHunter
Why dont you get measured so you know what your LOP should be instead of guessing?
Elmo
I measured it myself after I looked online on way to measure yourself.
NYbuck50
When you measure, be sure to throw on your hunting jacket or clothing you prefer to hunt in.. Your length of draw in a t shirt in May could be very different than your LOD in a winter parka in November
Elmo
Very good point, NYbuck50. I guess once the rifle comes in I'll see how much I need to add by feeling it.
Culvercreek hunt club
Good article and gives some good advice on determining LOP http://www.gundogsonline.com/Article/You-and-me-and-the-LOP-Length-of-Pull-Page1.htm
