Summit Tree Stands

Recommended Posts

I have at least 10 of the 15' stands from DICKs and my son has several . They work fine for me but aren't the most comfortable seat to sit in . I leave them up year round and periodically change the rachet straps . Last year I noticed the manufacturer switched from the solid metal seat to a crappy webbing design .

They had something that worked and had to change it . No more of those stands for me !

The only thing I dont like about that new Viper Elite is the sling seat. Could just buy one of the older style seats for it though, wont add much weight to it at all. Might be time to upgrade my old Viper....

Cant beat the 16lbs, I sold my old viper because it was a bit heavy to be lugging up and down hills. Plus I had a really wide 8 point walk in at a wierd angle and stand right under my stand and I couldnt shoot straight down because of the railing.

So I have pretty much made up my mind and will be picking up an open shot SD by summit sometime this week. I have been looking for something small and compact to lug back into the sticks and hunt some big buck spots. I have been stuck hunting on the ground because of the weight of my climber I now have and I get to sweaty lugging it way out there. I think this stand should make it happenn for me. I like how it only weighs 16 lbs plus the seat folds up against the tree for standing shots. Anyone own one of these and how do you like it?

New lineup for 2012 looks pretty sweet and they got the Viper down to 16 lbs which is pretty impressive. Check out one of there new stands, I might have to get this one.

if your gonna go with an open style climber which is great for bowhunting, you might as well go with the open shot which has a 3 inch padded foam seat instead of an uncomfortable sling style... most comfortable stand i've ever sat in!!!! http://www.summitstands.com/climbing-treestands/openshot/openshot-sd-climbing-treestand, and it still is only 15lbs... great for those out a the way spots that i like to go to!

I had the Openshot top for my Viper but got rid of it because I didnt like climbing without the bar. It was just like being in one of my hang ons though, very nice for bow hunting.

If you already have a Summit climber, you can get the Openshot top and use it with your current bottom section.

I had the viper a few yrs back but it just weighed to much so I sold it. I still use a aluminum blade style climber I bought 20 yrs ago. Love the summit's and was hoping the would bring something out lighter. The open shot looks like the ticket.

Well after a little more research I finally settled on the summit bushmaster from cabelas. Just a few pounds more than the openshot but more room. Will let you know how it works when I get it.

Its like christmas in June!!! Suppose to be here on the 11th!!

oh boy i don't know if i could handle another sling style seat... they drive me nuts, on the open shot the seat sits on a frame, one a the main selling points for me besides being so lite... but hey enjoy it, i love when the doorbell rings... its always something good to go in the woods with haha...

i have an older style bushmaster from a few years ago. it's a great stand, i upgraded to the rapid climb siturps and the pad that covers the bottom to eliminate any noise and i was happy with it. I recently bought a lone wolf hand climber and i like that as well. i havent hunted from it yet but it seems like it will be good for quick setups where i will only be sitting for a few hours. I think ill still use the summit for all day hunts due to the fact that it has the arm rests and feels a bit more comfortable to sit in for longer periods of time. Good Luck with the new stand

The seat on the Bushmaster is almost just like the one on my Viper. Its not the typical sling seat that can pinch or be very uncomfortable. They are extremely comfortable, and known to be some of the best out there.

The sling seats are extremely comfy I use to fall asleep all the time in my viper.the bushmaster is basically a viper without the front rail, stand came today, thats what I love about Cabelas! I ordered it on the second, they gave me an arival date of the 11th and I got it on the 6th. Cant beat that, and with $5 shipping total on an oversized order, got to love it. Total came to $230 which I think is reasonable. First impressions of the stand are good. Having had a viper before and loving it except for the wrap around, it was pretty much what I expected. I must commend them on their new dvd it not only covered the bushmaster but the full line of products that they sell. You just click on your stand and it shows you how to put that particular stand together plus how to climb trees. Stand came with a team realtree deer hunting video with like 30 kills on it, a full body harness, a team realtree screw in fold out bow holder, realtree car sticker, plus the stand. So I think it was a good all around deal. Now I have to make it up to the wife now though she was less than pleased with my purchase. :girlwah::girlmad:<_< Which always seems to happen when I buy something but doesnt happen when she buys something, hmmmm? Anyhow I need to spraypaint and play around with it and I'll put some pics up if anyone else is interested in getting one.

I have a Summit Open Shot stand or similar to it (it's a summit...I just forget the name). It is a comfy stand for what it is, but Summits are so freaking loud and noisy. Even the new ones seem so despite the advancements.

I have a LW Sit and Climb Wide and I recently bought the Hand Climber top. You can get a strap for the Hand Climber to make it easier to climb with and it works pretty well. I may end up selling my S/C Wide top and us just the hand climber for extremely far in hunts or for hit and run hunts for a couple hours. If it's an all day affair, the Summit will be used. I didn't find the S/C all that comfy and an all-dayer would be dreadful.

Sounds like you got a great deal! One of these days I want to do a camo job on my Viper when I have time.

Yeah I got it all put together and I thought to myself, well that was stupid now I have to take it apart paint it! But its pretty simple to dissasemble any how.

Got a Summit Viper on Layaway at Hesselsons... $219. I also picked up a hang-on yesterday at a rummage sale for $10. I'm gonna sand blast it and camo paint it, then fabricate a new seat (as that's the only thing wrong with it - squirrels tore it apart!).

Vipers are nice just dont like the wrap around bar. Hard to shoot deer up close. I missed an opportunity on a wide 8 point ( probably a 23 in spread, no lie ) back 3 yrs ago because of it. Deer came in, inline with the tree from behind and stood directly under me and then left the same way after I called him in. Sold it the next day.

Had a bear climb up and totaly demolish the seat on one of my hangons last yr. I took one of the cheapstuffed heater pad hunting seats and pulled all the stuffing out. Re stuffed it with synthetic stuffing and sewed the straps on it off the demolished pad and straped it on the seat. Worked out pretty good.
