Don't mow your bones

The wife let me go to Lowes yesterday and purchase a new rider for my B-Day.Well I ofcourse being a man going shopping alone with the blessing of the misses to get a new rider,just had to buy the 20hp instead of the agreed upon 17.5hp,that's a given...EH?

I gave her the excuse of "well we are going to be pulling the free trailer that it came with,full of firewood excuse". So it worked! Whats another $200 for ~2.5hp?

Anyway,reading through the manuals this morning,I came upon this statement in the general operating instructions and yes,spewed a mouthful of coffee and came close to gagging to death at the same time.

"Thoroughly inspect the area where the equipment is to be used,remove all stones,sticks,wire,bones,toys etc..."

Now I understand that those of us with dogs would possibly have such items laying in the yard at times.But my first reaction to reading this during morning coffee,and the images of actual bones laying about any given yard,made me lose it.

So remember to always remove the bones from your yard when cutting grass...the ER will not be happy when they have to remove and old deer femer from your torso.

I read a ton of reviews on it and it sounded like a 50/50 crap shoot from them. But also in reading the con reviews,I noticed alot of people just don't read the manual or try to "fix" what ain't broke or don't take the time to go over the nuts and bolts and adjustments BEFORE using the mower.Just because it was put together at the reatilers does not mean it was done correctly and should be gone over before use IMO...or gamble on it,and write a false poor review. So I put little faith in online reviews on some items.

I wanted a JD or Husky but refuse to pay for the name and markup of the parts and service...OH and the wife said NO!

Lowes was/is offering a free steel cart with the purchase so that kinda sweetened the deal for me as well.

Looks like it has a bone deflector on the mower deck, so you should be alright, LOL. Troybilt makes a good lawn mower. Their old tillers are still going strong.

I bought a TroyBuilt from Lowes a few years ago right after I had a knee replacement . I got the 17.5 HP Bronco . The problem with it is ..... it has a Kohler engine and after a while , the seals leak oil . I have to periodically add oil Stop Leak . While installing real estate signs , I have asked TroyBuilt owners if they have any problems . Same thing , leaks oil onto the hot exhaust and smokes . Apparently it is a common problem . Other than than , it's a great mower . Bought replacement blades at Tractor Supply .......

Most manufactures just don't get it. Gotta have a cup holder. Got sick of installing them on the tractors, when I sold'em.

This one wont cut in reverse....theres a way around it seen on youtube,but I aint messin with it.

With the TroyBuilt , you turn the key 1/2 way back and push a button and it will let cut cut while backing up . If you have the blades engaged and try to back up without doing this , the engine will stall .

My key comes back half way on it's own Ed. ...like your car. Any farther and it shuts off.

When I mow, if it will fit under the front of the deck, it gets run through. If it's too big to fit under then I use the deck to push it off the edge of the lawn into the weeds.
