  1. Ive been looking at AR15s for a few years now, but have been hesitant to spend that kind of money on something i didnt know alot about. Ive considered buying a new, factory rifle, used factory rifles and used custom builds, but I could never find exactly what I wanted. Ive been reading up on doing a custom build from a bare lower up, and it looks like it shouldnt be that tough, so I came up with a plan for my first build. The gun is going to be a carbine length piston drive, 556 upper with iron sights on a flat top receiver. The lower will be pretty standard, but with my choice of parts. I am going to build it using a stripped lower and upper from a local company. So far I have the parts and cost for the lower planned out. Heres the parts list for the lower: All Star Tactical forged lower Daniel Defense lower parts kit/trigger with Magpul MOE trigger guard Magpul MIAD grip BCM Milspec buffer Stock will be whatever I find a good deal on. Probably the Magpul CTR or Carbine I havent gotten too far with the upper yet, but heres what I have figured out so far: All Star Tactical forged upper with forward assist Adams Arms carbine length piston kit Magpul MBUS sights Should be a fun gun for at the range and plinking. I also plan to put a few different uppers together for different purposes. Probably a varmint config (20" bull barrel gas system) and maybe a 458 SOCOM setup for big game.

  2. That is the odd thing about this whole fiasco. Say what you want about the guy, you have to admit that he is not dumb. I find it hard to believe that he would knowingly air a program that depicts an illegal act. I really do believe that he had no idea that he had broken the law. In terms of the description of the law being obvious and clearly posted on the regulations book, I would have to see the example before I put a whole lot of credibility in the word of any newspaper reporter. Sorry, but I do have a bit of a general bias against the media when it comes to gun or hunting issues. Yeah, I know ..... it has to be true because it was in the newspaper ..... right? Well, maybe it is, but I would rather read that information from a more reliable source before I get too excited about it.

  3. Join the "Humble Pie" club. I also missed an opportunity this morning. All part of hunting & how we deal with the moment of truth. Sounds good,,,? No it doesn't make me feel any less humiliated either. Make you feel better, check the pattern of your gun at 15yds. Bet it is pretty small & tight. Some shotguns with full chokes & a XXX full choke tube are better at 30+yds than in closer.

  9. Maybe that law is in place because they don't want people taking low percentage shots leading to lost animals. In other words, shoot once, and shoot well. Ignorance of the law has never been an excuse in this country. The burden is on you to do the research. If you think a specific law is stupid, don't hunt in the area it pertains to. Granted, I wish many of this seemingly trivial laws didn't exist, but elected, state and local governments put them in place, not the Feds.

  11. Like him or not, Uncle Ted is an outspoken defender of the basic American right to own a firearm and to hunt and fish. He is unabashedly anti-Obama, anti-socialist-power-hungry government. He was arrested not by Alaskan Fish and Game but by Federal Agents from the US Department of Justice (i.e. Holder and Obama's crew). The illegal and unjust "law" that "he violated" was that "you must stop hunting if you graze an animal with a non-lethal hit" is an affront to any hunter and wreaks of a bureaucratic anti-hunter mentality that is threat to us all. Obviously Obama's minions are out to get him silenced. No matter Ted's past (I served during Vietnam and yes I don't agree with everything Ted says) you have the give the man credit for having the courage to speak against our current powerful and unaccountable leftist government who bit by bit are eroding our constitutional rights as a cancer.

  14. I would be absolutely shocked if the DEC ever gave the go-ahead to install food plots to an individual. There is pretty much a no-touch policy when it comes to state land. They have pretty much made it a policy that nothing can be cut, moved, stacked or in anyway disturbed or altered by casual users other than themselves or people assigned to work on their behalf. It really isn't even legal to clear out shooting lanes. So unless you could figure out a way to make a food plot without touching anything, I wouldn't get my hopes up. On the other hand, it would be interesting if various sportsman's groups were to make a proper pitch to them about entering into some sort of coop program where they volunteered themselves as manpower for whatever habitat improvement projects the DEC may want to get involved in. Given the right "sales-pitch", maybe such outfits as rod & gun clubs might have more success along these lines than just individuals.
