  1. Colorado has a similar situation to NY. They have one major metropolitan area around Denver where about half the state residents live. These are the areas that tend to be more anti-gun. The population in the western part of the state is overwhelmingly pro-gun. The CO DOW has absolutely nothing to do with the decision, so boycotting hunting in CO to try and make a point is ridiculous. All it does is reduce the amount of money available to CO for conservation efforts. Do you think the legislators that are passing these laws will feel that pain? The only people that take the hit from that boycott are other people like us. We should support them not boycott.

  5. I have never been a big fan of these kinds of boycotts that are aimed at the wrong people. I really don't understand what is hoped to be gained by wrecking your game management agencies. In our case, creeps like Cuomo could care less what we do to game management. Also, there is a correlation between anti-gun people and anti-hunting people, so by boycotting hunting, you are doing the work of both groups for them ..... That's not exactly a brilliant solution. There's just one boycott that makes any sense at all, and that is the boycott of votes for these guys. That's the one that's aimed at the right target and can get us the results we really want without a whole lot of collateral damage.

  6. It's a pipe dream for folks calling for this ban. They should look for another way to hurt Colorado DOW other than this. Guys/gals are NOT going to stay home from a hunt in any state to make a point. Me, I'll boycott Colorado by NOT applying again. (Same as I've done for the last 7 or 8 years) Like the people here in NYS saying to NOT buy a hunting license this year to send a message to Cuomo, good luck with that. If hunting is as important to you as it is to me, you'll find another way to "send the message".

  9. I haven't had a cam out in a long while so I put up a Black 60 in an area where turkey frequent..go figure, I get one tom and the rest of them are deer, after deer, after deer. Posting a tough one with the snow and bare ground for a cam and some close up. Cam is not set on the highest image quality...set medium at 5mp. Backdrop is 20 yards away. Notice in pics 3 and 4 - the closest deer never even makes it out of the frame by the time a second photo is snapped and that deer is on a run.

  16. Down sides are: (a) You will end up with a yearly tax on all your handguns. The state is broke..It needs money...these people think guns are bad, they'll try to make it that you can't afford a handgun (b). It will be expanded to long guns. - Again the state is broke. It needs money...these people think guns are bad, they'll try to make it that you can't afford a long guns © Any FOIL restrictions will be challenged to ignored - Others will get the list (d) What business is it of theirs to know what we own - they are our public servants, not our masters (e) Guns will be confiscated – (e1).suppose your neighbor or ex-wife gets mad at you or better yet an abused wife get a gun to protect herself from her ex-husband. All the pissed off neighbor or abusive ex-husband has to do is go to court and get a temporary restraining order against you. Now the police show up and take all your guns. The 120 lbs. wife is now DEFENSELESS against her 200lb ex-husband. You now have a dead wife (e2) Guns that were once legal 7+ round mags, pistol grip shot guns will be found and taken from you. Doc – I really enjoy this site and reading the comments people leave, but I’m starting suspect that a large percentage of my fellow gun owners are naively ignorant as to the nature of the their fellow man (politicians)

  17. Your Item 3 is in line with what I was saying, whether you see that or not. So with all these confusing laws you want to put another one on there? Mandatory AR's could have an impact of actually reducing hunter numbers. And even in Mandatory area the youth are exempt. I know private co ops that practice QDM that also give the youth a pass. It keeps them interested and that is as it should be. The numbers in the organization are not large here in NY but they are growing every year. We are behind other states in this process but without an effort to get the information out there it will never change. What effort have you made?

  20. Same here, although I'm not so sure i would even call it skinning...knife in on the center and slice those breastisiz right out. I don't find any other meat on them things worth eating.

  21. The skin helps for the meat not to dry out. If you pluck while bird is warm it is much easier. For our chickens i use very warm water in a big canning kettle. I add a few drops of soap to it and it helps

  23. I think it goes a lot farther than just an argument about license sales. I believe that of the current license holders, the average hunter is not putting in the time that they used to. To me that is more of a problem to the sport of hunting than changes in license sales. It shows that the problems of hunting popularity goes way beyond weapons choices, or hunter recruitment, or season lengths, or any other of those superficial so called cures. Basicly what we have is a social shift away from hunting, and there may not be any cure for that. There is no permanent way to cater to hunter laziness and lack of interest. You can sell all the licenses you want, but you can't force people to use them.

  24. I was about to say something about that, they don't like that it has gone over and over but they keep coming back just to give an opinion that they are tired of reading the same argument. I don't get it, if you don't like the subject anymore why keep reading or opening it up?
    1 point
  25. I see your point. Regardless of what the actual numbers are though, more recruitment is a good thing, and we should be using sensible tools to achieve that. Like I said before, I do agree that hunter access is THE biggest problem we have.

  28. Read your own linked sources man...lol...it's on the link you just provided. Darn near 21 years worth of lifetimes were bought in a single year. Lifetime License Sales License Year Quantity Sold Gross Sales Notes 2002/2003 4,355 $1,309,644 2003/2004 3,793 $1,245,545 2004/2005 3,892 $1,203,710 2005/2006 4,561 $1,372,550 2006/2007 5,270 $1,509,150 2007/2008 5,958 $1,662,860 2008/2009 106,915 $23,783,030 2009/2010 5,362 $2,189,234 2010/2011 2,922 $1,258,170 YTD 08/04/2011

  29. Average lifetime purchases were about 2-5k per year. In that single year alone...more than 106k were sold. That is more than 20x the annual average. So, yes. I do expect you to believe that.
