Got into camp Friday afternoon and geared up for a deer drive for some friends that haven't seen anything for two days because of the weather. Had a few doe go their way, but all small ones. My brother and I who were doing the driving saw two shooters and we each dropped one out of what turned into a group of seven doe on a drive Saturday afternoon. The deer are herding up in my local and with temps proposed to stay in the mid twenties for the next week it seems that still hunting is the way to go if you want to see deer. Saw close to 40 deer in two days still hunting in my snowshoes. I can't remember the last time I used snowshoes deer hunting in November, but it was great to be outdoors and putting meat on the table. SJC4 points

Took a shot at a Doe tonight around 4:30. 1st shot she didn't move 2nd shot ran. It was about 80 yards. Found her tracks and blood. Not a lot of blood but every 5 feet or so there were drops and at times multiple pin drops. She probably went about 100 yards. Snow made for easy tracking with blood along the way. This picture is the most I had in the 100 yards. The rest was pin size drops but like I said multiple ones. She took me to the field crossed it into some heavy cover. Thought I heard her in there and backed out. This is the same area my brothers deer ran to that we found the next day. I backed out at 5:30 going back up at 7:30. Wish me luck!4 points

Dropped this one Friday Pm after a friend called up and asked me to pay a visit to address a coyote issue. Luckily it gets dark early so I could get some sleep before hunting deer the next day. Big male that was looking to fight. Don't come to a gunfight without a gun. SJC3 points

I'm back from tracking. She is leaving decent blood she went into really thick stuff so I backed out until the am. Just puzzled at the blood trail. Hit site blood and some hair nothing great along the first 100 yards blood every 5 feet or so multiple drops slight spray. When I came back it seemed she started to bleed more. In fact I had blood on both sides of the track and on some weeds. It seems like at times good blood then it slows down. Thoughts on it? Ill be back out at 7 to take up the trail. I can look until 8:30 then have work but will come back in the afternoon.3 points

Headed north from central PA to tug Hill area for Hare and possibly grouse. One beagle accompanying me. Got in the woods ( 3 feet plus snow) with snowshoes on and sank in 15 -28" in the beautiful snow . We found an older (hours old ) covered up track but couldn't see it much after a few yds . Hare were hunkered down under the pine boughs . After an hour of searching/sinking we headed to a no snow forest near Parrish. Found some likely looking cover for hare...but alas no sign ..sad face me.. Just before dark I found a small clearcut. Walking in a grouse erupts abruptly away from me I take a long shot but it's heading down over a small bank. Missed apparently. Flushed another on the way out but the bird was gone in an instant. Nice day in the 40" plus snow and then bare ground discovering new areas. I only seen a few people deer hunting. There's a lot of smaller forests in new York compared to Pa and their mostly big woods. I'll be back soon !! Sorry bout' the Upside down pics ! Format stinks sometimes ugh2 points

Post your 2024 fall predator hunt videos or pics here. I'll start it off with three of the four I dropped the first week. My scope crapped the bed, so no video of these hunts. SJC1 point

Now that is not far from the truth. I guess the silver lining in these hunter declines is that it does give those still active a bit more opportunity. Al1 point

Guys thanks for your thought. Started at 7 last blood. We had light fluffy snow last night it covered the blood but still was able to make out tracks. Followed wrong set for 45 minutes. Came back and started again. My brother said to brush away the new snow and BAM blood. Followed for another 50 yards finding blood as I brushed away snow. Had to stop to get to work. Good thing is Ill be back at it at 2 pm. These temps not worried about deer spoiling. It's tedious work and have to go real slow. Good news in the direction she was headed I heard crows. I have found deer this way. Just hope the yotes didnt find her also. Report back tonight. FL1 point

Unfortunately we got an inch of snow and expecting a few showers this morning. I marked last spot hopefuly she is not far. I'll look 7am to about 8:15. Again I can pick it up after work from 2-dark.1 point

Seems like blood from the entry and exit wound, which is good. I’d pick it up in the morning, I’m sure she’ll be found.1 point

Promote the sport, and it will continue. Change it will, but it's up to we the hunters, to keep the tradition alive. My best bow season yet; no deer harvested but my grand children sure learned a lot. They read the basic hunting course on line. Then I was honored to give instruction in the field. Best part was, they didn't know the second part of the coarse was being taught. Hopefully, they will continue to learn, as I ; through out their hunting experiences.1 point

Gun laws are not really for stopping gun crimes. They are intended to harass gun owners and encourage us to give up our firearms. No one has any data that can say that any of the laws has discouraged gun crime. The fact is that the more laws and harassments they throw at us the more gun crimes increase. The only way to get the government off our backs is through the vote. We have the power if we ever choose to use it. We did a damn good job of shutting down any new federal gun legislation, now we have to get that sort of thing happening here in this communist state. But it takes dedication to our gun rights. It takes not only our ow votes, but activism to get others out to vote, and to vote correctly. The hunting community may be shrinking significantly, but the numbers of gun owners is growing. We should not be getting over-run by the anti-gun pinkos.1 point

Hey great news!!!! So we backed out tracking that doe for the second time. Thought was let her lay and die and we would go back to last spot and start again. We called up an overhead shot online and made a plan upon the last blood. We did sleep in and got out there at 8am. Don't you know our cameras blew up with two chases and that same food plot had 8 doe in it at 7:45! Hunt the storms! So we started at a point that would lead us to last blood. We were 30 yards apart and after 5 minutes my brother whistles I found her. She was about 40 yards bedded under a tree. The shot entered her mid section quartering to and exited out the the back leg. Caught the guts. Shot was high my Brother was lucky to get her. I'm glad we didn't push her last night. Learn from this but it was a gut shot but the shot was high and drove through and exited the backside. We didn't know she was gut shot even at that first blood bed. No evidence of stomach waste in blood. I say she is 140-150 mature doe. A Thanksgiving blessing for sure!1 point

Got the X50 scope back this afternoon and they were able to recover some of the videos. This is the dog I dropped at close range in the harvested corn field. It came from a long ways away and traveled through the cow herd before it met its demise. Wind was coming from the left, so it never knew we were there. SJC1 point

It's hard to promote hunting in NY. They make it to hard for us to buy the items needed. When you need a background check for a ML there's a problem. I was talking to an acquaintance last Summer who said he's no longer hunting in NY because of all of the latest gun laws. He's not alone, not only are hunters going elsewhere to buy ammo they are going elsewhere to hunt. Thought being they will no longer support a state that doesn't support them. Right or wrong I see the validity in those who feel that way. In my area of the lower ADK's there were a fair amount of hunters out for the regular season on public land. There's also a good population of pheasants in the area so archery season was a PITA because of the guys hunting birds emptying their shotguns at flying birds. This was the first season I can remember in my life I left the woods during a bow hunt because of not feeling safe to be out there with other hunters.0 points
