  2. I loved that skit. Actually saw a survival instructor do that to a bunch of kids using peanut butter deer turds. I thought they were gonna puke...lol

  3. I believe one of the problems is people get a permit and think they have to use it. How many times have you heard I've only seen one doe, then that is followed by I shot it. If people have that mentality the deer don't have a fighting chance. The DEC should lay off the permits for a while. I was wondering if the claims that Coyotes and other factors claim 60% of Fawns and we kill 10% of Does, how can they repopulate?

  4. This isn't quite the same as deer acting weird out in the deep woods, but here's my little story. Nothing is more frustrating to me than hunting hard all day and not seeing a deer, then coming home and having them partying hard in my yard/back woods. I have about 15 acres total and half of it is swampy brushy "deer sanctuary". The rest is hardwoods. They approach within 15 yard or less and I will talk to them. I don't have any food out-- even wild bird seed-- I suspect they are just used to me being outside all the time and my voice. The real kicker is that earlier this week I heard a shot out back and had to politely confront one of our neighbors hunting 1. on our property and 2. firing quite close to our house (<500') in essentially my back yard. I don't mind that he was hunting but he was there without permission and shooting toward our house from probably 100 yards... not okay with me. After I had talked to him and he left, I turned around and started walking back to my house and a group of 8 does and this year's fawns walked beside me the whole way. I told them that they should pay for their 'safety' with a blood sacrifice....

  5. Your best bet is to visit the shop and have a look at the mounts they have done. Make sure you ask questions that concern you so you are both on the same page.

  6. Can't hurt to look! I'd deffinately be out there looking for it. Chances are he broke it off fighting so check the places where the deer would gather to feed or staging areas. From the sounds of it, missing a 3 point section should be relatively easy to spot like a shed antler. If he's missing 3 individual tines it will be a little tougher, but I'd never say impossible. I've found a few broken racks and tines while shedding.

  7. I'm pretty sure the poster was talking about the broken antler not the deer.

  8. That would be sick if you found it though. Good luck!

  9. i enjoy huntin in general but i can't agree with ya because being in the woods many days throughout the entire gun season and not seeing a single deer it starts to get very discouraging after a while. i wouldnt mind at all if i cant get a shot at something but not seeing a thing except squirrels just sucks.

  10. They had a fee to pay it was $75 and that is the end of the discussion. I am so sick and tired of hearing about people making stupid decisions that the rest of should have to pay for. It's terrible that they lost their home but at some point you have to be responsible for yourself. So what if they couldn't afford it? Find a way! Shovel driveways, pick produce, pump gas!! You do whatever it takes to be self sufficient. It was $75 - I am not going to make any sterotypical statements about what they spent their money on but I know that $75 is less than 2 tanks of gas, less than a few meals out, it's less than my cable bill. I dont think I am going to get hurt or sick but I pay for Long Term Disability insuarnce just in case I cant work for some reason. I dont expect some one to pay my way. I will get off my soap box now - but before I do I am also pissed off at all these "Occupiers". Bunch of whiney idiots with $150,000 in student loans with a degree in philosphy. Am I supposed to feel bad for some guy because he feels he is entitled to a BMW, a 4000 sq foot home, and a 2000 sq hunting lodge. My advice work hard - pay your bills, shut your mouth.

  11. I'm putting myself in the shoes of Nash. If this was in my hometown and everyone knows there are big deer in the area then I would want to seek out permission to hunt on legal grounds anywhere possible. Always nice to have places close to home to hunt. From what I've gathered thus far in this particular area legal hunting areas are hard to come by. Now I have to assume this particular buck everyone in town knew about tame or not the hunter can't control that. (its not like he was feeding it in his backyard to keep it around at least that we know of) If I was able to get permission to hunt a piece of land and this particular buck walked by...and I knew it was tame it would still be hard for me not to shoot it. You live in a suburban wooded area what else do you expect, you're in the deer's neighborhood too. Now am I going to have the same internal satisfaction by shooting this buck over one of lesser size out on state land that took every inch of effort (scouting, trail cams, scent control etc.) to harvest I would say no. If I was to harvest this buck I am not going to try and sugarcoat the story either it "Hey I know it was a tame buck...I happen to be out hunting he came out and I shot him end of story. We all know when you shoot a buck like this one your going to get negative and positive responses...comes with the territory. But if you put all your pieces into place and do it the right way you should not be ashamed but pure common sense and deer knowledge will tell you that this buck doesn't operate like "wild" bucks. Maybe this buck is a little easier a kill then other bucks. I agree with the folks who say this bucks harvest has a lot of gray area but if your in this situation....you went out and found a spot in this area to hunt and hunt legally and this bruiser happened to walk would you put an arrow in him? I could make a point for both yes or no answers and be happy with either...

  16. Allow supervised sewer rat/pigeon airgun hunts in the slums of New York City. That's a win-win situation if you ask me.
