  1. Hmmmmm..., what if a fella were to dump a 50lb bag of corn in front of his stand and cover it up with an inch of dirt, or maybe some of those leaves you've all been raking off the trail? Technically, it would become a micro plot at that point correct?

  2. Camo fools more hunters each year than deer.

  3. grow a beard, camo is truly unnessary..its lack of movement. i watch my neighbor hunt deer and turkey in blujeans and a plaid coat and be very sucessful, and he has taken some bucks of a lifetime and huge gobblers. lack of movement is the key.

  4. Larry, I would humbly suggest that distancing bow hunters as being morally superior to gun hunters may not be the way to go when confronted with an anti hunter. We all want to educate but I would say throwing your brother gun hunters under the bus is not the best approach. Most of us hunt with bow and firearms. The non hunting public will get the impression that there large number of slob hunters exist out there taking risky shots etc. The anti crowd works on principle that incremental victories will lead to winning the war. Therein lies the danger. If they limit the freedom of gun hunters eventually freedom to hunt with a bow will be curtailed and vice versa. Just a thought for your consideration. No offense intended. You seem like a thoughtful guy.

  6. I am pretty sure the big 8 point is the buck pictured from last year with the broken rack. It took everything in me to pass on him last year. Hopefully it pays off. The 11 point has a unique sticker growing on his right side.Any rough guesses on the age of these 2 deer and what they might score?

  7. Animal loving anti hunter ! I ive been going for two impinged shoulders, after a few visits you get to know each other pretty well which helped. Today I told her that the day before I shot my bow to see how it went, ( three arrows only all in the center dot of the block at 20-25 yards) I could tell by her look all I needed to know. She could not hold back ,first saying "why do I choose to hunt them in such a cruel and painful way,as bow hunting causes great suffering. That was great to hear as I knew she did not know much just the bs from the PETA types, this allowed me to educate her while respecting her opinions. I got to explain that bow hunting was more of a challenge and that slob hunters don't want to do all that hard work bow requires, Bow hunted deer are " natural ,in there patterns and behaviors, the challenge is figuring it out. That a large percentage of deer I have bow killed never even knew they were shoot with an arrow, just snapped their head up looked around and went back to feeding, that most fall over in sight of my stand. She thought we lost most hit by arrows or that guys just shot them and never looked for them or just cut off the antlers. I got to address all those concerns. I told her I have killed deer by bow shotgun, rifle ,handgun, muzzle loader and car. That bow was a clean fast kill if both lungs were taken out,the car was the worst, and gun is clean and fast but some will tend to take risky shots in gun ,and we need to change that. What I,learned, she really liked that I said a little prayer after taking a deer, giving thanks for allowing me to,take an animal in a clean fast way. That she was very concerned with deers being hit by cars, and after one talk almost admitted hunting may be a better choice ,that the misconceptions of leaving deer to rot ,bad shots, pin cushiony deer, slob hunters is our biggest obstical to over come because her thoughts were not close to reality ,but by letting her talk then calmly explaining the facts and truth,it went rather well. Now we'll see if she fixes my shoulder in time for now season! My draw arm is mostly ok it's the left arm that hurts just holding the bow at full draw.

  8. Anybody have some easy hikes with great views to recommend? A couple of weekends ago we hiked up bald Mountain near Inlet. It was less than an hour to get to the fire tower on top. Its nice easy walk along a pretty ridgeline. One is rewarded with nice views of the Fulton Chain. I took a snap shot (below) of Fourth Lake looking to the East. The familiar ridgeline of Blue Mountain is visible in the distance.

  13. Actually, the only reason that I wear camo is because that is what most of the warmer, better quality hunting clothing comes in. Grease paint all over my face ..... I can't stand the feel of it, particularly if it's hot and I need to be able to sweat. Of course I am not hunting in a tree stand and am usually quite well concealed. If a deer can see me, it is only as much exposure as it takes to get the shot off. But consider gun season where I am pretty much mostly in the open sitting there like a big solid orange lump. No face paint or anything. I have never been picked off in that scenario even when deer were exceptionally close. So, I think maybe some of that stuff is more of a confidence builder for the hunter than it is an absolute necessity for success.

  14. 250 grain shockwaves here too. Pushed out with 150 grains of 777. I know the extra 50 grains is wasted on a non complete burn but still shoot it . I've shot gun with 100 and 150 grains zeroed with 100 and noticed no difference. Of 7-8 deer I've shot, none have gone more than 40 yards. Carrying it instead of slug gun this season. I only shoot once and more comfortable with how dang accurate it is.Dang, now I can't wait til deer season

  16. It works a lot better if you at least scratch the soil with a rake. Just scuff up an area before you throw it down. I have used it in the past and it does grow.

  19. I know this is late but... I have a 44 mag lever action thats set up "scout" style using a bushnell trs-25 red dot. It doesnt add any noticeable weight and it shoulders and gets on target faster than you can imagine. I first tried it with a long eye relief scope and it was just ok but with a parallax free red dot its a different gun. The second it reaches your shoulder, you're on target.

  20. I have a really good way to cook those honkers.....take the breasts or whatever part of he bird you use skin removed and place in a crock pot. Then add an onion ,carrots, celery ,garlic, one half cup of chic stock and one cup Marsala wine. Cook till the meat falls apart about two hrs. Then remove the meat and some of the veg and a little of he liquid pulse in a food processor and pulse until mixed well. Check for seasoning. ....s and p . Now mix about a cup of ricotta cheese in the mix....do not process it just mix it in. Now get a package of wonton wrappers and place one tablespoon of filling in the center. Lightly brush the edges with water and place another wrapper on top and press to seal. Make sure you get all the air out or you will have a blowout. Now gently boil in water for 3 min. And remove. Now blade three tab spoons of butter in a frying pan and a few fresh sage leaves. Let the butter turn lightly brown and add the ravioli.share a few minutes and serve......hope this helps Sent from my KFJWI using Tapatalk

  21. I figure I might as well try an Xbow and purchased a Excalibur "Axiom". The biggest advantage I see is not having to draw on a deer which means a lot since I am primarily a ground hunter. I am also looking forward to using a different weapon to harvest a whitetail. I find it ironic that I also bought a recurve bow this year to learn traditional archery.

  24. I realize hunters should know better. I'm on Long Island and we have some high density deer areas. I have heard of people feeding the deer because they a) think they are doing a good thing to help a "hungry" animal or want the "pretty" deer to be a regular visitor to the yard. They have no interest in hunting (some actually oppose it). When I explain that feeding is illegal, they don't believe me. When I prove it, they stare with incomprehension. They can't wrap their head around the concept.

  25. Why in the world would our state government put a maximum on the draw weight of a cross bow? Pennsylvania and almost all the states that allow crossbows have a minimum but no maximum.

  29. Mr.VJP I'm originally from South Carolina. I've hunted mostly boar and axis deer once. I've been an NRA member for more years than I can remember and I keep my membership active. Trust me, I know what you mean about hunting with certain folks. Imagine being the only pro gun, NRA member, pro hunter that works in NYC add to it that my political views differ. It can become very annoying. This is from my last trip to Florida
