  2. He's still in there he's 4.5 years I have other pics of him. He's built like a tank. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I've always been in rifle counties so I never really had to focus on developing a slug gun set up. This is a tight cover scout rifle I was working on this summer.
  4. The stock will be Browning meets Remington meets Winchester. The steel being John Browning, the stock being Remy CDL style with a classic Winchester checkering pattern.
  5. what kind of shape was the head in after that doe?
  6. Their Sabertooth looks a lot like a Powerbelt. Ever shoot those?
  7. For those of us who like fixed blades, what are you shooting. For me, I'm still happy with NAP Thunderhead 100's. They fly great and make for great blood trials. They are tough as nails on deer.
  8. I do like the toughness of the Chisel Tip Rage 100's. The fact that the shock collar is needed to keep them from rattling bothers me a lot. I shouldn't need extra parts to get their heads to work right.
  9. I swapped rifles with a guy in Texas, he wanted an old 300 Wby Mk V I had for a new in the box Weatherby S1 Vanny SubMOA in 30-06 (my fav). He said it had been in his safe for three years. This was a great trade for me because I only paid $400 for the old 300 and the S1 Vanny SubMOA was $1000 when they made them 5 years ago. I know because I bought one in 270 WSM that I love. The problem with this one was that the stock was desert tan spider web. I did a ton of research and did my own paint job in a brown web. It was super easy to do and came out great! I added a DNZ Game Reaper scope mount, and topped it off with a Burris C4 Plus 30-06 3-9x40. Then I'm in a gun shop in Coconut Creek Florida of all places about a month ago and there is a Timney Trigger for that rifle hanging on a piece of peg board. It was a special order for a guy who had some "legal troubles" and no longer needed the trigger in his new residence. Needless to say, the owner of the shop said I should make him an offer. I got the trigger for $70! Not really having time to develop a load for it, I ran some Federal Fusion 150's through her to print the rifle. Holy smoke true to the Vanny SubMOA reputation, she put 5 rounds through one hole at 100 yds! A few clicks in a couple of directions and now I can absolutely say that this one will be coming to stand with me this year! So every now and again the sun can shine on a dog's @$$. All in, I got a $1000 rifle set up for $650 my cost! Anyone got a similar story, please share it.
  10. I put a 2.5# spring in the A-Bolt now. Just waiting on a new stock for it, ordered a Boyds walnut. Can't stand those black tupperware stocks.
  11. Regret selling mine last year. Great round.
  12. I'd put a red dot on anything for tight cover. Smaller MOA dots are better.
  13. The 444 has often stood in the shadow of the 45-70. It shouldn't be that way. It's a bit lighter with more zip out of the muzzle.
  14. Here they are. Martin Onza 3 and a Diamon Deadeye.
  15. Gonna bowhunt in Walkill once more on 10/29 - 10/31. Hopefully bucks will be on the move.
  16. Blood Moon is around 11/6. That should be the second full moon after the fall equinox. The week before will be full on pre-rut. Territory dominance all that stuff. So last 4 or 5 days in Oct to Nov 12 should be pretty hot. Look like the bow hunters win this year.
  17. Carbon Express Heart Attacks. Like $80/dozen.
  18. I'm sure it's a beauty them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. That's light for a factory Encore trigger. TC's usually come out closer to 4 pounds. Its made Mike Bellam a fortune. Remington sets the XMP as low as 2 pounds in the factory. And my bad the Timney in my 700 is 1.5 pounds incase I said it was lighter.
  20. I've been hunting with 1.25 to 1.5 pound triggers for 10 years or so. Ever since I got the Weatherby SubMOA. Those are factory set at 1.5 pounds. Never had an issue. Safety is on until the rifle is shouldered. As far as a snag goes you can have a 5 pound pull, just the weight rifle pulling on a snag is more than that. By that logic we should be hunting with 8 pound triggers. It's 1 1/4 not a set trigger at .33 pound.
  21. The TC triggers are installed by lawyers lol.
  22. My Rem 700 has a 1.25# Timney which was their factory X-Crap, sorry meant X-Mark Pro, were set at. I'll take a clean breaking, light trigger, anytime over a heavy one.
