Just be careful there isn't a bubble in that blast or you'll have as much mud in your boxers as you will on your boots!

1,200 guns found and 2 tons of ammo of dead guy
eagle rider replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
I wonder how much 22 LR was in that skid? -
Anyone have a Browning BAR they are using? I have a newer Longtrac 270 Win. It shoots amazing, can only do 1.5" at 100 yds but it is a semi auto so its unfair to expect better. No felt recoil at all, functions flawlessly, its a bit on the fancy side but so be it. Its like a sewing machine, it does the same thing every time I pull the trigger.

that's a great pic!

.270 bullet and grain recommendations
eagle rider replied to damore81's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
Federal is owned by ATK which also own Aliant Powder and Speer Bullets. Everything they load is with these components. Power Shocks use Speer HotCor bullets which are roughly the equivalent to Core Locks construction wise. They probably are (Federal as a company), better manufacturers of commercially loaded ammo. I wouldn't hesitate to use their products hands down over everyone else. I load a lot, but when I shoot commercial / factory ammo I almost always use I use Federal Fusion almost exclusively. -
good people on this site. So welcome.

This is usually a good debate topic: Semi Auto deer rifles have some distinct advantages, most notably the ability of r a super speedy followup shot. But the accuracy tends not to be consistent. Let's hear what kind of groups for loadings you are seeing in your Semi-Autos. I have a 270 Win BAR Longtrac, It shoots about 1.5" at 100yds. It tends to like cheaper stuff, Federal Blue Box 130 gr. High Shocks print the best with it. I also have my fathers old 7400 30-06, prints about the same with just about anything I run through that. The BAR hold groups better over longer sessions on the bench then the 7400 will.

Variable 3-9 covers most everything you can ever need.

The Harvester Scorpion looks like a good bullet as well.

anyone use an Action Camera to video their hunts
eagle rider replied to eagle rider's topic in Deer Hunting
I did a side by side comparison with the Spypoint XCEL HD2 and my coworkers GoPro Hero. Basically the Spypoint beat the GoPro in wide angle and depth of field. The zoom on the Spypoint is a hands down GoPro killer. We set the cameras down a 60 foot hallway, the Spypoint on digital 4x zoom made everything look 15' away while providing a wider angle of image video. I think for hunting deer this combination is superior. A couple of other details. The audio quality on both got a lot better when we didn't use the housings. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I looked at them online. I can't recall specifically many of the details that I didn't like about Tactacam. But there is no zoom feature at all and I don't think the processor speeds were all that great. Also battery is like an iPhone I think. Permanently installed so no swapping batteries. LOL, I still use an old Schrade Old Timer Sharp Finger gut hook. My Grandfather bought it for me when I 15,.... nearly 32 years ago. That was when they were still made up in Ellenville. I think it cost him $12 or $14. I have dressed a countless number of deer with that knife. It is so old that the sheath leather is drying out. Don't know what I will do then. Good memories in that knife too. I have added the butt out tool to my kit. It makes things easier back there.

I core and tie the butt then start down from the notch at the bottom of the sternum.

One of the features that the Spypoint Xcel HD2 has over the GoPro is a 4x zoom. This camera is designed with hunters in mind. -

here is the camera mounted on my rifle. I took some video at work today inside the station house. The video was good and clear. Things that I like so far are the ease of use, the zoom and the fact that the lens is NOT fisheye. Things I don't love is it get hot when its recording, and the audio is not great. -
Thanks fellas, I was looking for a better bullet. I have tied the shockwaves with varying results. Powerbelts are garbage and nobody at Harverster answers the phone. I will try these (even though they are the same as the shockwave).

Okay, y'all..... I'm getting tired of see the red neck mafia with GoPro's on youtube.com with hunt videos. I used a bunch of Sportsman Guide reward points and ordered a Spypoint Excel HD2 Action Cam Hunt Pack. From the reviews I've read it has better lens technologies than GoPro. Anyone shoot video of their hunts.... I'm curious about the do and do not's of this. Thanks!

Plenty of jack lighting happening on the over priced sandbar. I hear gun shots at night on nature sanctuary property all the time. The property is over run with deer trails. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anyone hunt with these? If so what are your thoughts. http://www.hornady.com/store/50-Cal-Sabot-Low-Drag-with-45-Cal-250-SST-Bullet/

Try and shoot a dozen arrows every morning throughout the year. Its good for muscle memory.

you can shoot them in my yard in Smithtown pretty much every morning. Just bring coffee for me.

There is a reason why many states require a minimum of 6mm / 243 Win or bigger. Because it can be done, it doesn't mean it is the most ethical practice. Bigger is more sure thing,.... as a good friend once said, why hit a deer with a moped when you can hit it with a Buick! Think 270, 30-06....
