  1. I learn something new every day so will take any pointers from a successful hunter..leaving a deer over night is never the first choice but when in doubt do back out. The salvaged meat is always questionable if the over night temps are high but the idea is that due to a bad shot the deer is alive late in the night and was alive until few hrs of recovery in the morning.
  2. Its a public forum, imho we are all just stating what we would do. If i find a deer after the shot I am gutting it.. no way going to delay that no matter what the temp is..again just something that i have done for over 2 decades.
  3. Yup 17hrs at any temps over 40 without gutting...just not worth the risk. Now of course what you did makes sense to me and with the coming low teen temps, let it hang for a week and no concerns
  4. i dont know, how can you be sure if the shot didnt rupture the esophagus and now stomach matter is all leaking in there? Gut it out asap!! or break it down and cool it up but thats my rule.. You do your way
  5. Easier to gut it hanging like that..if I am not doing gutless method than i prefer to gut it hanging and let gravity do the work.
  6. You need to get HNY gang together, so if you have 8-10 shooters every one has fun
  7. I am looking to lease land anywhere in Ontario, Livingston, Monroe, Orleans or Genesee counties. Long term will be preferred. Any leads or tips are appreciated.
  8. How does one get the phone #s of the owners..feels like stocking
  9. Just heard 2 gun shots in 8N and then 5 minutes later 3 more About a mile from Richmond, thinking celebrations for new yr
  10. Unless you are in pressure free area The deer do tend to bed down earlier in the morning and agree that more often you will have better luck in the evening
  11. I like to give ppl benefit of the doubt and feel not every one out there is a poacher or breaking the law with every gun shot i hear. Hard to tell much diff between shotgun and rifle when the shot sound is far away. Maybe I am naïve
  12. Predator..squirrel or pheasant hunting ??
  13. Cloud cover and any snow on the ground also makes a difference.
  14. Definitely the range finder for bow season. Heated vest and socks for the late season. Most importantly the Havalon knife..works everytime
  15. Best bet check out gunbroker.com and get what you really want
  16. I bought some Dunstan trees but sadly none survived due to heavy clay soil that hold on to moisture too much in the spring. I was told afterwards that its best to plant these on a mound.
  17. I have 3 tags valid state wide...all 3 can be doe if you got a spot open..will need help loading after the shot Just saying
  18. With that exist in the belly , IMHO from the tree
  19. That is a rule of thumb with any misfire/non-fire or hang fire. Always wait..safer that ways.
