Our anti-gun governor hasn't done them any favors. They don't get the tax breaks and other incentives to keep jobs in NY and the US granted to other companies. I see Remington going down the same road as Ithaca and Winchester. Someone will buy them for the name and designs but I doubt they will be a NY company. I've always loved my 870. Stone cold reliable in the worst of conditions. And I'm often out in the worst of conditions being snow, ice and rain. The 870 has put a lot of deer in the freezer. It isn't my safe queen

I just finished posting my property tighter than a drum. I don't object to new hunters going out with experienced ones to show them how it's done. I encourage that and have mentored a few myself. I do object to those that just bought a gun that they have never shot and going into the woods to get them some deer. I fear part of the increased sales is the price of meat and shortages that have happened. My Amish neighbors have always been respectful of my property but every year I get one or two "English" that come onto my property. (English is Amish code for outsider) To access my property you need to cross a least one other posted and private property. One year a guy walks in right under me in my tree stand obvious. When I asked him what he was doing there he informed me he knew the owner real well. I told him I didn't think he did but it's always a very polite conversation with everyone holding a gun.

Very sorry for your loss. Been there plus brother but they all live on in what you've done with them, what they have taught you, traditions and your memories

Every range there ever was when they close down is a RECRA hazardous waste site. Lead is known as a Persistent Bioaccumulate Toxin (PBT) Lead is an elemental material that doesn't breakdown. In industry if you use more than a hundred pounds of lead you get the joy of filling out a SARA Title III report to explain where all your lead went . I've had this joy. Getting to the hundred pound threshold isn't tough. It's lead, it's dense, it's heavy. There's no more lead smelters in all the US, they are all off shore now. Wet cell batteries still use a bunch of lead. I would like to build a range on my property but the design is going to be a lot better than just shooting into an earth berm. Daughter is presently dating a structural welder. She's been informed not to screw up until I finished my bullet trap design.

Nomad Touché I wasn't meaning to insult. I've hunting across from Bristol Mountain and some farms there Yes, you do have deer. Factories, not so much

East Bloomfield, I bet it was made by Crossman Arms. The pellet gun company. Because there nothing there else other than cows.

You need to consider how it's going to be use. You need a better quality one for long range. 150 yards or less isn't long range. I wouldn't get one without incline compensation. If not and measure from a tree stand the distance with be longer than what you actually need for a measurement due to the affects of gravity, I use a Bushnell Scout DX 1000 ARC and find it works great. Previously I had a Simmons that wasn't compensated. It's fine for measurements on the ground.

GR Hunter Yes, I download the map first then go offline. I have to as 100' from cabin I lose any service. My cabin has internet service. Not sure why as I'm the only "English" in the area. The rest are Amish But the internet sure come in handy out there

Steve My job puts me on call 24/7 I’m a few months away from retirement. Nowhere on my property do I get cell service. (Paid extra for that). My Amish neighbors aren’t big into cells. I pity the person that inherits my cell number. One of the attractions of OnX was the offline maps that show tax lots. You can get an OnX chip to insert into certain GPS units. The 680 was one of them. Using my cell I established a waypoint from a known survey marker. But when I checked program it was more than 100 feet off actual. This I blame more on the cell ability to establish satellite contacts than the program. Property is all very mature and dense hardwood.

Hock3y24 The parcel boundaries haven't changed in years. The only benefit of going to County is current owners of property. And that I already know and even the owner of the others properties doesn't know the borders it this hazy area that's in question as it isn't a square or a rectangle.

I have three properties that I've purchase and that are join at irregular points. Most of it is surveyed fairly well and is well understood. I would like to use ONx Hunt with tax map feature to get a close approximation of the hazy boundaries. Within ten feet would be fine. Area is heavily wooded. I downloaded ONx Hunt to my cell and looked at known and well documented points and they were way, way off from what they should be. I don't mind spending a few bucks for a decent hand held GPS and I'm willing to spend up to $400 but like most of you, I like to spend only what I have to. I know accuracy improves with more antennas. Beyond standard GPS there's also Glonass and Gallio that are supposed to have improved accuracy over standard GPS. I'm kind of partial to Garmin as I've had good experience with their equipment. There's only a limited number of hand held units that work with ONx. Does anyone have experience with this or can offer a alternative solution?

All I can say this is the best that the leaders of the free world can come up with???? Parachute a monkey into a crowd. First one he touches is it. What do we have to lose. In fact, staff the Congress that way too. And I know we would do better for a new NY governor that way. Why, give the monkey the job.

Getting a deer just isn't that important Enjoying the time out is If I see the deer I want, it's one shot, one kill with minimal walking. Only take the shot that accomplishes this.

I've own a couple of muzzleloaders for many years but have never hunted with them. Newest one is over ten years old and is at least an inline but a bear to clean and not suitable for BH. I would set this up for Blackhorn. I've narrow my choices down to either a Optima or an Accura. Is the Accura worth the extra money? I don't mind the spend it if it's value added. I treat my guns well and hold on to them a long time if they serve the purpose. I'm pretty anal about cleaning. I collect and shoot a lot of WWII surplus guns that shoot corrosive ammo. Cleaning is a lifestyle. I have my own hunting property which is all hardwoods. Seldom would I ever have a shot over a hundred yards on my own land. I can hunt neighboring State land that can yield longer shots but even then, not many. Generally I hunt from tree stand set by intel of my trail-cams. Is the Mountain rifle the way to go or does Plains rifle not really make that much of a difference. Here I get very confused. I know a lot of people are against Creakote worried should it chip and the stainless underneath is chemically altered and now not as corrosion resistant?? How is that applied? Powder coat? I'm betting they roughen stainless and if exposed, it could accumulate the corrosive salts better. The other options are stainless and Nitride Stainless. Nitride is a very hard coating that I assume is vacuum metalized on stainless. They wouldn't need to roughen surface. It seems a reasonable way to go in the three options but I value those that have experience. Last, I was holding out to closer to hunting season to see if there would be deals. Now I worry just about places having stock due to Covid. Buds Gun Shop seems to have decent prices. Any other decent watering holes. Thanks in advance for any help

I'm pretty familiar with the Finger lakes wineries. Pretty much none of them are directly on the water. They are up on the hills looking down at the lakes. There's hardly anyplace to dock on the finger lakes other than established launches. Any other suitable place will likely be private land. I once did a mountain bike trip to wineries that was pretty much a bust. After the fourth winery we didn't feel like biking anymore and those hills are pretty brutal.

My wife's family owned an apple family in Williamson, NY. They both passed away last year and since no one wanted the farm we ended up selling it. I'm going to miss just walk out back and getting eight different types of apples right from tree. My horse friends are going to miss that too. And buy apples??????? Gosh, I've never done that.

Don’t be frugal when it comes to paddle. Plastic and steel ones aren’t anywhere as efficient as a carbon fiber and fiberglass one. Think about it. This is your propulsion system and the one motion you repeat thousands of time. Excellent place to shave away weight

Better than their old stoves are their old lanterns. They are engraved with sun and also have a saying. “Sunshine of the night”. Got one at camp. Definitely white gas. Normal gas will gum up generator. Generators were the consumable. Later models were redesigned so they could run on regular gasoline

When I work on the farm in 70's you could go to the feed store and buy dynamite and blasting caps with no questions asked. this was for clearing away stumps. However, I never found any farmer that would buy dynamite when he had plenty of fertilizer high in ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel. You would pack it under stump. And oh, clearing away stumps was by far the most fun you ever had on a farm because most of the other jobs sucked. I hated hay season with a passion. Hottest and longest days possible. I also don't buy this was only ammonium nitrate. It is commonly used as an explosive because it is fairly safe to transport alone. It is often used to blow away rock walls when building roadways

I have 30 acres in 9P that borders the 1300 acres of English hill state forest. I have 12 game cameras on this property I keep going year round to watch all sorts of wildlife and a few two legged invaders. A few things I've noticed this year that seem to be different from passed years even though cameras have been in static positions from year to year. Many more fawns seen this year plus several doe with two fawns and even three much more so than years passed. Young fawns seen much later in season than years before. Is anyone else noticing this trend camera wise or general observation? It wasn't that nice of a winter on my mountain. We had pretty deep snow early on and the temperatures were downright frigid so I wouldn't refer to it as a light winter. I'm over 2000' elevation.

Jerry I see the Armstrong trucks running cable all over the place by me so don't give up hope. This is one job it's not hard to social distance. Especially in areas that lack people in the first place. I'm amazed they ran it by me as I'm one of the very few around there that isn't Amish. Some how I don't see the Amish jumping on the fiber. The Amish call me English. It their code for outsider but they seem to be getting use to me. I think I screwed them up when I asked one of them a question and they spoke a broken German to me. They weren't expecting a German answer back.

Phade LTE would be the best one as signal strength
-
Jerry, rough cut. That's like having a dollar but the ice cream cone cost $1.25 and you are just licking the glass watching the other kids. For those of you contemplating getting more signal with a booster, before you spend your money on one you really need to see if you have enough signal to boost. The signal bars on your cell phone are basically useless. The best way to measure you signal is to enter your phone into "Field Test Mode" I'm most familiar how to do this with an iPhone but if you Google your model of Android there's a way to do it for that too. For iPhone enter *3001#12345#* The bars are now replaced with a negative number. In this case a lower number is a stronger signal. If the number is -100 or better than you really don't have enough signal to amplify and I think you would be wasting you money. -80 or even -90 should be able to boost. A lot of rural areas only have 3G and not LTE. I think Wilson makes the best boosters but they aren't cheap. To get the best signal figure out where the closest cell tower for your carrier is using a website like TV Fool. Use a directional Yagi antenna for booster and point it at that tower. But trees and mountains between points A and B do make a difference. Originally at my cabin the closet tower was ATT but our phones were Verizon. We ended up getting a Trac phone for that zip code so it would be ATT. My father was in his last months so not having phone or texts wasn't an option. Texts take less bandwidth.

Is DSL an option? You'll need a phone line. I have it and run a ton of stuff off of it as I made my cabin Smart, also have a lot of security cameras and stream TV service. And of course internet. DSL has a distance limitation from the "Office" Place where they have their head end equipment. I'm limited to 6Mbps but that blows away what I could do with cellular before. I saw ArmstrongNY is running a lot of fiber in rural areas of NY. They have a huge contract to do so and ran fiber down my road. I'm supposed to be able to hook up by the end of the year. That may be an option. They have a website that shows where it planned to go in. http://armstrongny.com/Home/Map I'm grateful I can get internet where cabin is. My wife has been working out of cabin for last four months. There's 55 total cases in that county and no deaths. These people social distance for a living. They already live miles apart I've never heard anyone say something nice about Hughes. Ends up being expensive and limited

I had a Federal Firearms License for many years. It allowed me to have guns shipped directly to my home but an adult signature of the residence is required. My city house is in a very urban section near a park. There's a lot of foot traffic. One of the places I would order from was called Guns and Ammo. They would label boxes Guns and Ammo to promote their company. (Bad move) They can't ship gun and ammo in the same box, they had to be separate. To order I would have to provide a signed copy of my FFL for that shipment to supplier. Once it left their dock it was my property. So I made a order for a couple K98 Mausers and a few thousand rounds of 8mm ammo and they shipped it UPS. I came home from work one day to find two long boxes and one very heavy square box sitting on my porch unattended and not signed for. I went ballistic (Like the pun?) I would never want my property used in crimes or to harm people. What level of stupidity did the driver exercise to do this? I immediately contacted UPS as to how this could happen. First they told me they had a release from me that allowed them to do it. Well, not true and even if it was it's a Federal requirement to obtain an adult signature to release such a delivery. Pretty much a no brainer. But oh, that didn't stop them with excuses why this wasn't their fault. Pretty much close the conversation with you're too incompetent to make these deliveries. From that point on I insisted my deliveries of this nature be shipped FedEx and over night.
