Jerry Got got same deal as you. Wife will cover medical next few years and she can even go part time and get it. Nice to work for hospital and university. In benefits no less. I too will be house-husband although she won't approve all my methods. Tool Man Grunt I'm seeing uses for a leaf blower BUT I'M A WAY BETTER COOK THAN HER I'm less worried about the continued paycheck and more worried about US just printing billions and giving it away. Isn't this kind of what Greece almost sank the Euro with by inflating their salaries? I worked 40 years to save what I have. And honestly, I think it's incredibly stupid to give checks to people that don't need it. I totally get bailing out Mom and Pops and restaurants and such.

I mostly reload for calibers that are difficult to come by but do some common ones for accuracy. 7.5 x 55 Swiss being my favorite as once you form fire it to a particular K31 you can achieve through the same hole accuracy. I do the same for 30.06 for my 1903 Springfield's. I save brass and dedicate to that gun. My equipment is a mix. I dedicate a press stage press just to de-cap and have an old Lyman ST 6 stage turret press for other functions. Longing for a better scale as balance beam takes forever Winter time activity

The most damage I get in the safe is from bolts from other guns. M1 Garands are one of the prime offenders due to operating rod handle. Everything I own goes into a gun sock. I forget the name but most the ones I have ones that must be 3/4 inch thick. Those are exceptional padding and every M1 gets one of those. I also have some in just a 1/8" sock. Allen I believe. Generally my Nagants and things get those. Crowns have never suffered and way more damage to crown is done by people that don't know how to clean a gun. I will confess every safe I own is overcrowded. I've discovered it's way easier to sneak another gun into the house than it is a safe. I know some claim these socks hold moisture to a gun. I've never had an issue with that but each safe has a Goldenrod and I run two dehumidifiers in basement. I have a lot of tools down there and also don't care to see them rust. At least once a year every gun comes out of safe for an inspection, take apart, clean and oil. Generally the winter months. It sort of therapy. But nothing beats holding M1 while watching Band of Brothers. But sometimes I take other side and it's a K98. For The Pacific it's the M1 Carbine Enemy at the Gate, Mosin Nagant

Need a few for NYC so Andy can see it. I doubt Mr. arrogant is anywhere near Albany. Did you catch where he going to find the liars. He should start with mirror to find the big one

Chef It is your response that's flawed but I'm sorry if I stuck a nerve. First, I do trust vaccine as was clearly stated in my original post. The vaccine isn't something that was invented in six months like some people think. The technology behind it has been in the works for ten years. We are lucky we had a vehicle in the waiting to fight Covid. My brother, PhD biochemist and Fulbright scholar was called out of retirement because of his expertise and is heavily involved in detecting, fighting and getting a cure for virus. My company makes optics that are used in equipment used to detect, fight and work on cures for virus. We been working 7 days a week three shifts. I delayed my retirement because I knew this was important and so is the position I hold in company. Gross obesity is not a choice? We are talking BMI in excess of 30. That's well beyond just being overweight. I grant you there are people with issues that use food for comfort. However obesity and smoking isn't a disease. It's more a bad habit that tough to kick. Some of the conditions they generate are a disease and if it advances to those stages then I do support those people to get vaccine. Why did my wife deserve to get vaccine. Do you seriously think her cancer was attributed to any action on her part? And I don't think you know how remission works. Cancer cells aren't all gone and often does make a come back. She's on drugs to help prevent it. Her immune system is compromised. I take it you never had to deal with this in your family. You are lucky. It took my other brother well before his time. He also did nothing that would attribute to his cancer. It also took my mother. Also a nonsmoker. Due to my upbringing it was ingrained in my brothers and myself to be selfless. I do think of others when I make choices. My choice here is there's far more people that need vaccine at present than I do. At present, there's far more demand for vaccine than available. When that changes, I will get vaccine. I would also like to see Children 15 and under get vaccine before me. I've lived a good life. If the big guy takes me, so be it. I lived a life without screwing anyone and have helped many along the way. It's what makes me feel good. I grant you see this all different and that's your right. I voice my opinion and you voice yours.

They used to be located close to the old Beikrich's gun shop that has since closed up. Oh I miss Beikirchs. Place got all screwed up when Hann's sold it. I don't think new owner had a clue. Plus every time I was in there the place turn into a cracker barrel. Lots of people chatting but nobody buying that seemed to occupy sales staff. Hello, paying customer here that wants to buy something yet would go un-noticed. It was so nice to get any powder without a Haz-Mat fee.

I'm right there with you Jerry. My last working day is April 19th. I have enough PTO in the bank to take me out two and a half more months. I could take it as a lump sum payment but tax man gets it all. I gave work almost a year's notice I would retire then. Only in the last month did they think I was serious. I even had one VP tell me they would make me still longer.. Oh really? Not happening. Oh, you can be a contractor. Not happening. Oh we'll pay you really well. Read my lips, Not happening We have already bought our retirement home. Beautiful log home, 30 acres on top of a mountain, three ponds and it joins 1400 acres of State land. Compared to how I use to have to hunt this is the Country Club. I can get out of tree stand to take a dump on a flush toilet and back in stand inside of 20 minutes Since Covid my wife and I have been living apart. She's a breast cancer survivor and can work from home without issue. To the cabin you go girl. I have to be hands on in my job. Our optics business is actually quite vital to fighting Covid. Our optics go into instrumentation that detects and fight virus. We been essential since day one and have been balls to the wall. I get to see my wife and dogs weekends if I'm not working.

I do store guns alternating up and down in safe to maximize capacity. But everything in the safe is in a gun sock to prevent safe rash. As far a capacity what other say here is quite correct. I have no idea what gun they used to establish capacity. It must have been those 22 cal. Crickets. My safes are Sentry. I know not top of the line but when I bought them they were made just down the road from me until Master-lock bought Sentry and screwed all the employees. I think they are made in Mexico now. I won't buy another. A lot of safe make a big deal out of fire rating. It's very unlikely in a fire that your safe would heat up unless fire is in the room and around your safe. Most decent size safes have to be a decent floor. Mine all weigh over 500 lbs. The basement or ground floor is often the location. A bigger problem is water damage. Fire men will pump enough water into a house to fill a basement. A watertight seal in door is a benefit I didn't get my panties in an uproar about break-ins. As long as it would take an angle grinder to get into I was OK with that. Most thief are targets of opportunity and not master criminals. The pit bull security system in my house works quite well.

It amazes me that severe obesity is a qualifier to get vaccine. You might as well open it up to chronic smokers too as both tend to be self inflicted. I qualify to get vaccine because of high blood pressure. Will I, hell no. Not because I distrust vaccine. I watch my blood pressure like a hawk and take all the steps to control it. I would feel like a thief taking from many far more deserving that have real issues. Wife is getting vaccine. In remission for breast cancer.

Bathroom remodels are the worse. When I did mine I could believe the hidden problems. Previous remodel someone cut halfway through a bunch of floor joist to make way for plumbing. However I did find a collect of various vintage beer cans from 50's tuck in wall. This guy must have been a real pro.

Looking for beginner’s crossbow under $500 (Barnett/Wicker Ridge?)
hueyjazz replied to KoplyD's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Plus one on the Centerpoint I had a Barnett Jackal before the 370. It was fine for accuracy but as soon as you pulled the trigger it was very noisy. If the deer didn't jump the string I sure did. Zero issues with Centerpoint except I think the toe ring was design for someone in Ballet slippers. Only ones complaining are the deer. It's been quite deadly to them. In target practice it is accurate out to 50 yards. That being said I don't take shots over 30 yards and I yet to have to track a deer. I have no experience with Wicked Ridge but have heard nothing bad about them I believe Centerpoint put out several new models this year. Hopefully they corrected toe ring. I did contact their customer service (Crosman Arms) and that was a very common compliant. -
Remington Coming Back To Life In Ilion Ny
hueyjazz replied to SportsmanNH's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
This very much surprises me but is a step in the right direction. The arms plant is vital to the survival of Ilion, NY There's not much else there or even close by. As Anti as Andy is, that's going to have to put some screws to him to aid with tax perks and incentives. Plus that facility is likely a Brownfield. I would love to see what efforts shield new company from that environmental liability. This is far from a done deal. I'm seeing a lot of concessions that aren't on the union's agenda. Starting with "Employed at Will" And I'm sure new company isn't looking to pay for passed earned benefits such as vacation. How are the 200 being picked. Seniority? I bet not. More on skill set that would allow them to minimally staff. But I love the history of this facility and they did make quality guns for most of their duration. I'm sure they have many skilled craftsmen capable of regaining a share of market. My 870 is old dependable. Never failed me. Even in freezing rain. Just had to rack it. I really hope they find a way to work this out to mutually benefit. I only way I see that happening is by to give on all sides and not just a squeeze play by one side. -
Detective Clint: Dirty Harry Wayne: McQ Western Clint: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly Wayne: Rio Lobo War Clint: Eiger Sanction Wayne: Sands of Ima Jima Comedy Clint: Kelly's Heroes Wayne: The Quiet Man I would say both were pretty well versed in their era and Clint had the benefit of more mature production capability than Wayne. I'm not choosing. I just know when all else is crap on TV, stream one of these guys.

Tree and shrub sales on now!
hueyjazz replied to G-Man's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
G-Man is quite right. I've participated in the DEC nursery program for a couple of years now and have planted hundreds of trees and bushes. G-man, have you fed as many deer as I have? I did find out the hard way they love new plantings. I can tell you you'll need to act fast as the better choices disappear quick. The best way for DEC is to call as that's the only way you'll know if they have stock. The nursery just started taking calls on the 4th starting at 8 AM. I had to try for two days every half hour calling before I got in and still some of my choices were gone. This and the help I gotten for fish stocking are the some of the best the DEC has to offer. -
It does look like an old Onan. Those things were pretty bulletproof. Have you try to start it? Generally they weren't a very large KVA

Is there a way to get another muzzleloader tag to hunt muzzleloader season? If so how do you do it this year? Online?
-
I'm taking my SIL out for his very first hunt. I plan to train him right. Shoot only a deer you will be proud of. Take that deer by aiming at heart/lung. Don't take the shot that doesn't. Shoot once, twice max. Know your target and what could be behind it. Better not to shoot then live a lifetime of regret.

Assembly is usually one bolt and about five minutes to do. I'm unaware of any ability to tune a crossbow.

Biggamefish I think the accuracy of a cell phone is highly dependent on your view of satellites. I found taking readings of know positions of survey marks to be more than 200' off using my cell phone GPS with Onx located boundary lines. This is in an area of dense and tall trees on a mountain top. That's not acceptable for my purposes and cell phones don't have all the antennas that the better GPS unit have. Plus good GPS have access to GLONASS or GALILEO Steve D You pay over $100 for a chip that's less accurate than the program you can download for $30???? (Not that the property owners in my situation matter to me. I already know who they are.) I did find that the Huntstand app seems to be more updated as to owners and that can be had with their free app. But I don't know you can import that to a GPS like you can with Onx with a chip.

I've always done the same thing with my ammo. When I buy it I make sure all the boxes are from the same powder lot. I Loctite all my scope screws, make sure rings are aligned and then sight in. From year to year I find guns to be dead on with that ammo. Only time I test sight in is if I think scope got bumped. Zero issues for many years

Well, it just got a lot worse for employees. About 600 laid off. No severance package and no vacation paid for days earned.

This is how it turned out Vista Outdoor Inc. was the successful bidder for the Lonoke ammunitions business. Sierra Bullets LLC was the successful bidder for the Barnes ammunition business. Sturm, Ruger & Co. was the successful bidder for the Marlin firearms business. JJE Capital Holdings LLC was the successful bidder for the DPMS, H&R, Stormlake, AAC and Parker brands. Franklin Armory Holdings Inc. was the successful bidder for the Bushmaster brand and certain related assets. Sportsman’s Warehouse Inc. was the successful bidder for the Tapco brand. Roundhill has agreed to pay $13 million for the firearms business, according to documents filed Sunday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of Alabama. The pending sale has union leaders in Ilion optimistic that the gun factory will remain open but that's far from a guarantee and if it does I'm betting it will be a far smaller operation with a lot of union concessions. Plus there's the site itself to deal with. I've managed and sold several large industrial properties. Anything this old is certain to have environmental issues. Keep in mind most environmental laws didn't even exist before Nixon. There was no EPA or DEC. While some actions that were unethical, they weren't illegal so it lead to a lot of contamination. Personally if I was part of a group that was considering this site I would advise them to run away. Many of the worse problem I have seen were direct related to metal degreasing and plating. Both would be large components of gun manufacture

Well, I discover my first (and only) complaint about my new Optima V2. Those sling mounts are a plan to fail. No way am I going to trust plastic at a point of tension. Seriously CVA? Plus I always learn to use my sling as an anchor to steady when I shoot. I loop and pull tight to body and find Garand slings work well for this. I'm sure some of you have figured out an alternative to CVA's mistake. What are you guys using? I'm sure there's an Uncle Mike or somebody's else's that works well. I'm not afraid to drill stock but I do want something that doesn't compromise anything or interfere with barrel.

CVA Muzzleloader Accura V2 vs Optima and many?
hueyjazz replied to hueyjazz's topic in Muzzleloaders
Well I follow your collective advice and settled on the Optima V2. This weekend I mounted scope (Old Bushnell Banner I had), installed Blackhorn Breech plug, made up 100 grain loads by volume, used Game-crusher sabots with Hornady XTP bullets and then sighted it in. Wow It took a whole three shots to put it on target and then three more told me this thing is stone cold accurate. One thing I did immediately notice as in my old muzzle loader I use Pyrodex pellets,. using Blackhorn you don't have to wait two minutes for the smoke to clear to see what you shot. :-) -
This will be a death nail to the little town of Ilion. It is their only major employer. And it's a nice little town. Remington had a little museum on the property that was worth the look. That factory had an extensive history through the depression and world wars. Motorized bicycles, typewriters and Browning machine guns to name a few of the items produced. I will shed a tear when it goes.
