Started at 14 coming up from LI to hunt in Dutchess County. We stayed at an Inn about 20 of us. Hunting camp was a blast and the memories and stories were something else. We started in 1974 and did this yearly ritual for decades, seemed it would never end. Well now at 66 it's down to me and my old friend Frank. We're the last two and hunt my property in Ulster Country now. We've hunted together for 50 yrs. All the other guys are gone, many sadly have died off, many just lost interest, others moved south. My buddy Frank will be retiring come summer and his wife is going to drag him to Florida. We don't talk about it much, end of an era I guess. Sitting out in the woods I can still hear the voices and stories of our long gone crew and think of the good times we had. Almost a bit erie when I'm out in the woods now. Now I realize it wasn't all about the deer we shot or that new rifle, it was about the people. Those were some times.

The first couple you butcher will be just that, a butcher job. Sharp good quality knives, a cleaver or even a hatchet and a saw. Can even be a carpenters saw. YouTube is great. I'm to the point where I do a gutless job right in the field and come home with straps in a plastic bag and legs in a milk crate strapped to my 4 wheeler, then I do the detailed work on the board at home

Anyone seeing these Chinese Crossbows?
Gobbler Chaser replied to Gobbler Chaser's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Chinese xbows have their limb issues but that seems to be a common ailment on many of these speed bows today. I hear adding 40 50 grns weight to your arrows cushions the limbs at a small reduction in FPS. I'm shooting a slightly heavier arrow and still getting speeds around 370fps. -
Ive always been an Excalibur Loyalist 20plus years now and still am, Yea, but only the Canadian made ones that didn't explode on you. But with that being said have you guys been keeping up with these new Chinese Crossbows? Go ahead and flame, but there's something to be said about these 400 dollar 400+ fps wonders. Yea in the beginning they were toys but not these new ones. I'm going on my second season with a Center Point Amped 425 Chinese takeout special and have to say I'm impressed

Why do people have to be such jerks

Funny how I think back to the rather rudimentary experiments of the 1970s when scientists would overcrowd rats in confined spaces and they would all start to mangle each other. -

Dead / during ash near my box blind
Gobbler Chaser replied to luberhill's topic in General Chit Chat
Ash trees after being girdled by ash borers stop producing leaves and you'll see the bark start blonding. Once the bark starts to flake off be careful. A good breeze snaps them 10-15ft from the ground. The process can happen in as little as 2-3 yrs. Ash trees aren't like other hardwoods, Oak, Maple which stand forever after dying. I have Ash coming outta my ash on my property. Cut about 100 plus in the last year or so. -

The companies that buy cats for the materials pay good money and have zero accountability. No questions asked. This perpetrates the problem makes it way too easy. Serialize them and have a data base set up, problem solved. The lowlifes will have to figure something else out to steal.

I love my headlamps for getting into or out of my ladder stands. I'm not even sure how the hell I used to get up in a climber without a headlamp many years ago but I did. I use rechargeable headlamps now and love them because they're always at full charge. I use them all the time when I'm doing welding projects and have one Velcro'd to my welding helmet. When I'm working on saws or anything anymore I have one on

My Dad used to hunt wild boar and deer in Germany. A long family tradition. I traveled from Frankfurt to Cologne by train and it was miles and miles of reisling wines grape vineyards and there were elevated hunting blinds all along the trip. Mostly wood structures. Very cool set up overlooking shots that probably reached out 100s if not 1000yds of yards

Bill Gates owns 1/4 of 1 percent of Americas farmland. The movement against America's farmland is nothing new and started long ago when corporations started buying up Family farms back in the early 1980s and way before. Now the agricultural giants/Wallstreet own the majority of the farmland that we receive our food from. Yep and that includes alot of foreign influence. Gates although very rich still has nowhere near the money to buy enough agricultural land to support the theory that he's planning on somehow starving the masses.
