What time will you be in your spot on saturday
Gobbler Chaser replied to luberhill's topic in General Chit Chat
Leave the house at 5:30. Be in my spot 5:30. Always go in early in rifle with a light. No walking in without a light for me. I'll be on my property tomorrow but you never know. If I move I wait till it's light enough for my blaze to be seen. Be safe out there guys. Lots of loonies -
I hunt the SZ but have to wonder about the NZ muzzleloader season being expanded to start on Oct 22 in the middle of archery season. How was this pulled off without major backlash from bow hunters? And would this ever happen in the SZ? I realize I'm treading into dangerous water here but was just wondering. Wouldn't it be funny, Crossbow hunters and Vert bow hunters having to form an odd alliance to keep modern inline muzzleloaders out of bow season...

I'm probably the biggest food slob here. But my sits are usually 3 to 4 hrs and I keep movement to almost zero especially on these dead no breeze days. You never know whats coming up behind you in a stand. I was busted the other morning pulling my coffee from it's holder by a deer I never knew was there. Its hard enough keeping deer from picking up my scent let alone soppressata n swiss on a hero. I eat when I'm out

NY 17 inchs tip to tip. But that particular CP is pretty cool and would be a breeze in any blind. If anyone choose to use one on their own property I certainly wouldn't slight them for it. I think NYs xbow laws are stupid

Holy shid

With a MZ pistol do you need to file an amendment and put it on your lic if you have the components and intend to shoot it? Always wanted one just to play around with

Ouch!!!

The CB season is too short.

Cats are cool. I have 3, real characters

Wind light outta the west. Cool temps. The rut is looking like it's underway. Last few days of bow/xbow season, a little depressing

Mercy! -
I walked thru 2 inch's of water this morning to get to my stand in an ordinarily dry area. And it looks like it's gonna dump again

Just learned a monster ten point I've been watching since September was poached at night not far from me.

Been thru it myself. Very damn hard. I have several good fur buddies waiting for me up there.

Anyone hunt small 5 acre size spots
Gobbler Chaser replied to luberhill's topic in General Chit Chat
Like the posts here show it's all relative. All depends were the five acres is located and how it's situated. -
Might be starting. Had a doe run across a field with a small racked buck in "high speed pursuit" late morning
-
I've tried an assortment of them some years ago and they all sucked. But I'm willing to try some of the new brands being marketed today because maybe the technology has improved and I hate cold feet and hunt right to the last week many seasons

Sorry keyboard tough guy but you can bury your head in the septic tank behind the local Taco Bell. Anyone ignorant enough to call a crossbow a crossgun isn't even worth talking too. Bet you don't run your mouth like that in public.
-
There you go, throw the crossbow division into the conversation. I have yet to see anyone hunting turkey with a crossbow. And I'm not too sure about seeing the same thing with deer numbers. NYs deer population has been growing if anything.
-
Yea I know we have poaching going on around here.

Spooking Does and Fawns - Can it Ruin Your Chances?
Gobbler Chaser replied to Northcountryman's topic in Deer Hunting
Big bucks use does as sensors. They'll stand off and see what does are doing, if they're relaxed. If the does are looking directly at the target buck that's normal. But if they're looking at something else or testing the wind alot the buck will hang back -
All I can say for you guys who still have a good bird population in your area is enjoy it. Never thought I would see the numbers of birds we had around here disappear to the almost zero numbers we have today. It's a precious resource and once it's gone you really miss it. My last two spring seasons I'd have felt guilty taking a gobbler. And from the lack of turkey flocks I've seen this bow season I'm not expecting much this coming spring
-
Last of the trappers disappeared long ago around this part of Ulster county. I honestly don't know any locals in my area that trap. Coon, fox and yote numbers are the same here as they've been for a long time without trappers and we've had awesome turkey seasons just 4 years ago and haven't had anything in a real trapper population since the 1970s.
-
What could they have done. Sometimes nature takes it own course no matter what we would like. Fishers, racoons and even crows that have become really good at spotting spring nests. Who knows. I hope they rebound one day as quickly as they disappeared

Hey a trip down memory lane here
Gobbler Chaser replied to Gobbler Chaser's topic in General Chit Chat
I remember there were also guys who would fashion a box and sensor with a standard digital camera and make their own trail cams because the early digital TCs were such junk. They had plans available on forums for them. Man I don't miss those days
